Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
Sorry, that didn't jump out at me. Much of the weight of an amp comes from the transformers and you need big transformers to get loud. If I had to meet the weight requirement, I'd build a custom head from a Weber 6A80 kit ($660) and use a separate cab. (80 watts) That probably would meet the weight limit.

Are you?
Gatherings have been restricted to 5 people where I live. It will be months before we can or should try to fill a medium sized room with people...
But as for the amp, the suggestions of a vibrolux or HRD sound moldy practical to me (I find PRs a bit underpowered and twins too damn heavy to be useful).

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
These are good suggestions. People complain about the HRD amps, but the best part about showing up and having them as your backline is that they're a "known quantity" i.e. you basically know what you're going to get out of it. Is it flashy? No. Is it going to get your through the night? Yes. Does it beat having to lug your own amp to the gig? YES!mbene085 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 3:02 pmAre you?

If I had to get a "new" amp, I'd probably buy one of those Supro Edit: Tremoverbs! - can be found around $700, decently loud, great verb and trem, versatile 1x12 at 15W. Don't see the need for anything louder than that for the kind of music you're playing (I'm in a similar genre, but more 60s pysch).

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
I'd still love to know what defines "medium sized room"
I have a small practice room - essentially 3.5x3x2.4 and in it I fit a JC-120, two twin reverbs, a quad reverb, a Sound City 120R with a 2x12 two marshall 1960a 4x12's with a 1959SLP and a hybrid fender head (bastardized by me) a vox NT15H and a Boss katana 100 1x12.
I regularly use the twins and the 4x12's in stereo wet/dry at medium volumes. Heads into cabs changes depending on my personal taste. SPL's aren't absurd, but I can make a room shake and buzz rather easily. Makes 'getting a feel for it' straightforward and simple.

It certainly isn't 3.5x3x2.4! That's not even a Closet...BlueSparkle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 6:36 pmI'd still love to know what defines "medium sized room"

IMO a medium sized Room is a Club that holds a couple hundred people...

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
Tremolux is the correct answer. Beats a Vibrolux cause it’s exactly the same but head + cab, so better.

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
I run an Egnater Tweaker 88 into a 2x12 Avatar cabinet with Eminence Lil Texas (neodymuim) speakers. I play in a punk band so I'm not chasing headroom, but it has a ton of it. I've never had the clean channel above half and that was for an outdoor gig in a stadium parking lot at a car show.
More linear tubes like KT66 or KT88 options will help with the ability to turn up and down to match a space without a huge shift in tone from power tube saturation changes. Just wanted to throw a non-Fender option out there.
The new Twin Reverb with the solid state power section and neodymium speaker would represent an extreme weight to headroom ratio option, I would think.

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
I've got a different recommendation.
Buy a cab with 12inch speaker(s). Run the Vox speaker out into the cab and it will sound bigger. Run the Vox line out to the PA.
The bigger speakers will give you a fuller sound and running into the PA will make sure you have plenty of volume.
Plus it could be a lot cheaper.

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
Straight forward gigging amp, I’d go with the Fender Hot Rod series.
Cheap 2nd hand and quite east to find.
I’ve used and gigged with them for years and they just work.
Might not be my home or dream amp of choice but a great workhorse, easy to work on or have work done on and they can do clean or dirt and take pedals well.
And you don’t have to get t too precious over them if they get ridden hard and put away wet.

Re: Gig Amp Recommendations?
Yeah, I used to tour with those because they are cheap so if they get stolen or break you won't care. They sound decent enough, fenderish tone not too expensive or heavy. I've gone off of the deep end into British style amps lately, so I no longer use anything fender. Getting fancy in my old age.2002standardmat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 2:44 pmStraight forward gigging amp, I’d go with the Fender Hot Rod series.

I'm willing to bet he's speaking in metric
That's roughly 11.5x10x9.

LOL That's got to it! So, he's talking about a Bedroom? What's the connection to a Gig Amp? I thought the OP was referring to an Amp for Medium sized Gigs?
