10" Speaker Suggestions
Hi all
My Laney Cub 10 needs a new speaker & I'm wondering what peoples experience of any might be?
My larger amp (Fender Blues Deluxe) has a Jensen CK12 which I love - ideally I'm looking for something as close to this as possible.
I'm leaning toward the Jensen Falcon 40 as it seems similar, but I'm not going to get the chance to try any of these in person
I use 12AU7 preamp valves to smooth out the amp, and all my dirt comes from the board.
thanks in advance for any pointers

+1 on emi ga10 sc64! I use two of them in my Vibroverb and like them a lot. Great for clean as well as dirty sound applications. Balanced frequency wise and only 1.3 kg.

I just put the 12" GA SC64 in my tweed deluxe. Best speaker out of the box I have tried. Sounds great.
My friend just put a 10" in his brown face princeton, and thats great too.
They are cheap, and they have proven over time, that they're great.

I have 2 10'' Vox speakers that really sound great. I've paried them with different heads, and they always sound good
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

I've employed four Weber Signature 10" speakers to rebuild a late sixties silverface Super Reverb. I think they're fine speakers, and they aren't very expensive. A good bang for the buck.

I wanted a Celestion Alnico Blue for my Vox AC10... Celestion doesn't make one.
Weber has a Special Design 10" that sounds like the Blue.. If I remember it's the DP-10.. About $100.00. I bought one & now my Vox AC10 sounds much like my Vox AC15 which has the Celestion Alnico Blue... I also upgraded the Tubes to Tung Sol's which make both Amps sound even better....
Good luck..

My super reverb has a set of old celestion g10L’s pulled from an old Marshall cab. Compared to other vintage supers mine has much less of a scooped sound but still retains the big fender cleans you expect. Not sure how they’d fare in your Laney but worth a look perhaps.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far, please keep 'em coming.
The Laney is very Fender-ish but I've had mixed experiences with Celestions. Eminence sounds promising but would be buying 'blind'
Anyone using Jensens want to weigh in?

Re: 10" Speaker Suggestions
I always thought the Laneys were more Vox sounding...
Vox, as well as Marshall, borrowed Fenders Amp designs in the beginning.. Tweaked their Tubes & a couple other things but they were Fender inspired designs.. Hence their similarities on design & sound... Vox also borrowed Fenders Strat & Tele designs for their Phantom & Teardrop Guitars...
Speakers are subjective.. Much depends on what kind of sound you want....

Re: 10" Speaker Suggestions
check out the celestion vt jr. I put a couple in my princeton chorus and have been in love with them. great lows and highs without losing too many mids. they handle high gain really well without being fizzy like a vintage 30 can be. for $60 new, it's worth a shot.

Re: 10" Speaker Suggestions
The Warehouse Veteran 10 is a good speaker, though I've really only heard it in higher gain applications.
