What a coincidence, this popped in my head yesterday as I packed up another 60s Fender transformer to go to someone in Canada... I did wonder if it ever got finished!

It looks great Justin, well done. Hopefully it serves you well - and I'm glad to have been able to contribute to the project in a small way. I want to hear it now :D :D

Thanks Johnny! It’s been fully operational for a long while. I just hadn’t used it too much on account of how bad the other speaker was. I need to recone it one day. I’m super pleased with how it sounds. I am also happy with the tidiness of the build. Sorry for the lack of sound samples. I sold all my recording gear years ago to buy other stuff :D

Don’t downplay the significance of that transformer! It’s great and I am still really appreciative for it. Thank you! It’s cool that it’ll live on for at least another 60 years! After dropping the voltage a bit, the tone really came to life.

Yeah it looks super clean and tidy, especially inside (where it counts for us nerds).

I really need to build something like this soon, but I fear it'll end up in the attic with my other unused projects :D

Right now I really want to build some kind of low wattage JCM800. Mojotone has a project that is a 5E3 and JCM800 twin channel with a 1 watt output section. I think it seems pretty interesting. I’d love to just build a straight JCM800 preamp with some kind of 12 watt or less power amp.

The trouble with that is that, as well you know, sometimes volume is everything in some particular 'sounds'. The 800 sound is one of those, screaming like hell from 100w of EL34s is what makes it what it is...IMHO. it's like dooming through a 5w amp - yeah, it's fun, but it's not a patch on dooming through an OR120/Matamp stack. The experience is part of it

Thanks! I applied multiple layers of clear and tinted shellac. It has already seemed to age some on its own too. I like the look much better than bare tweed.

I think I already have enough hours in on this new speaker to call it broken in. This little amp is quickly becoming my favorite. It is a great teacher in right hand control. I can’t get over how dynamic it is. This is a really great circuit! And I will confess, I believe that I :-* 10” speakers. The assumption that you HAVE to have a 12” is not entirely accurate, at least to MY ears.

Too many people have played only poorer quality small speakers. I'll take a higher quality speaker over a certain size speaker any day.

One of my favorite speakers is the Jupiter 8sc and I know how many claim no 8" can sound good.

Cool, I love that cabinet.

If it was my amp, I'd swap out those metal oxide dropping resistors with standard 1w carbon film.
