Curious if anyone knows if the smooth vox Rolex is reproduced by anyone these days?

These folks sell
Thomas Organ era-type stuff.

Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for though.

Thanks. Doesn’t look like they have the right stuff.

I figured not. What specifically are you working on?

I’m wanting to cover a cab in the same stuff my ‘64 ac30 head has.

Either I have a different definition of “smooth” or that AC30 has been recovered, because the material that ‘60s Vox cabinets are covered in isn’t smooth.

It doesn’t look like what I saw on the North Coast site either. The pattern is different, like a textured weave.

The amp in this link has what I’m trying to match. But you’re right I wouldn’t consider typical vox weave Rolex smooth.

Yeah. I have never seen a Vox covered with that material before. It says it’s rare, just part of 1962-63. It also looks very thin? I can see the miter joints and the wood texture underneath.

I had a ‘64 AC-30 and it had the thicker, black weave pattern. It also had the black panel heat vents, not brass. I like the fawn vinyl look too. I don’t think it’s as thin as the smooth black vinyl.

As far as tolex goes I think Taurus black comes closest but it's still to vainy.

I'd look into Rexine, or car roof vinyl / pvc. Book coverings as Arbetex or Leathercloth could also be a closer match. As with most things in the music industry; a lot of the products / parts have origins elsewhere. Tolex is just a brand name for vinyl with a fabric backing. Looking outside of the "tolex" realm could probably get you a closer match.

Retrospecialist on Ebay may be able to supply or point you in the right direction.
