Hey all, here is a link to a kit that I built up myself last year.
http://www.ironsounds.com/
look under kits for there 18 Traveller Kit. I made it and I have a basic to medium skill level. I work alot on guitars and the occasional fix it job on tour as a Guitar-tech so felt up to the level needed- but like people have said the volts inside any amp can kill you. I got 3 shocks during the making of this due to my own stupid mistakes., one bad enough to blow the fuse in my workshop, Tube amps contain voltages high enough even when turned off to give you quite a scary shock. Its a toy that an kill so must be treated with respect but if your slow and careful then its a great thrill to plug into your own amp.. My main advice would be take it to an amp tech or someone that knows more to give your amp the once over just before you take it out and play. its better to be safe than dead. I can assure you of that. I've taken more shocks from amps and things on shows to not enjoy any of them..

Well they ain't toys. Glad to hear you are still alive. Get your ticker checked out. Electric shocks can kill off fragments of your heart muscles. These are my self-imposed disciplines for working on amps.

Never put your hands in the chassis unless the amp is switched off and unplugged from the wall

Use insulated test clips/gator clips to take voltages/scope readings (I don't bother with pop-tests anymore, they are too risky)

Never do electronic testing standing on a concrete floor - concrete is a great conductor.

Never do electronic testing on amps late at night, or under the influence of any sort of inebriator.

Keep kids and pets and innocent bystanders out of the room when doing electronic testing on tube amps.

If you're going to make a business of selling your amps to someone, get personal liability insurance.

the worst shock I ever got was at 3 AM while frustrated and talking on the phone at the same time. Luckily it knocked my hand off and didn't knock me out, but it WAS about 600 volts.

Fliptops - http://www.fliptops.net

Mostly Ampeg spares, but they do carry other stuff as well. Not as good a resource for building a new amp but great if you need to fix an Ampeg!

I primarily shop Mojotone because they're practically local to me and they ship really quickly, but I've found some good deals at Watts Tube Audio

http://www.turretboards.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Voltage is certainly to be respected, but current kills. I sometimes hear people say that the current inside a tube amp isn't enough to kill, and maybe, (all things being equal and ideal) it isn't, but you can't ever take that for granted. Skin resistance isn't linear and at 300-400 you can easily get 100ma to 250 ma of current across your heart which is enough to cause fibrillation.

Surprised not to see any mention of...
https://www.watfordvalves.com/

Some great deals on speakers and tubes. I remember ordering a pair of Celestion Vintage 30s for somewhere around €150. I like TAD, but they'd probably charge about twice that. Brexit might soon make things difficult for those of us in the EU though.

Surprised no one has mentioned

http://tube-town.net/index.html

THey're different from tube-doctor, more of their own designs in terms of kits, but distinctly cheaper, with really good shipping prices. Website is a little quirky too... but I ended up getting loads for my current Princeton and Deluxe Micro from them

I think they're one of the best European sources for key items, capacitors and hardware etc. Super-quick delivery too. Seem to work out cheaper than Modulus UK, tube-amp doctor or mouser, for example, and their valve prices are about the same as Watford Valves.

Their own kits actually look very interesting - standard designs usually but with their own, common power supply. They do their own 6G15 tube reverb, in two versions, for example, both slishgtly revised, different cosmetics (boo), but way cheaper than anyone else's. Would be very interested to hear from folk who've built any of their kits.

Is there a decent vintage parts seller? Or is it eBay and Reverb or bust?
