New brown Princeton day!

(Well this is a little belated. Mostly due to being pretty busy lately.)

So here she is. A nearly mint Dec. '62 brown Princeton!
My favorite amp. I can't have only one of these, now can I? No way!!!
I have to thank the "Tell me about Brownface Princeton threads" for helping me justify the need for another one.
Special thanks to StevenO for enduring long winded PMs about these amps!

It's in a super great shape. Despite the new RCA plug on the original tremolo footswitch cable and the re-coned speaker its untouched.
Not a scratch. And the chrome looks new.
Sounds pretty damn good too, despite needing a dire cap job. All the electrolytics read much higher than their printed values.
For the time being, she sits and looks pretty until I get parts in the mail to do the recap and 3-prong cord conversion. Until then I'm not risking playing it.

I really had to convince myself to keep this one, let alone do the cap job. Its so pretty I'm almost afraid to ever take it out. My old '63 was a total beater and sounded so good, but I had no probs hauling it here and there. Might have to get a nice cover for this one. Or look for a beater again.

**Also for those interested (namely anyone following the couple of minute circuit differences amongst 6G2s)...
...this one has 270k bias resistors and a 1M volume pot.

Thanks!
Ordered parts today. Think I might try reusing the Astron covers for the board caps this time.

Wow, that's beautiful! :-* And super clean, too. Seriously, I thought mine was clean, but that's near mint. And I totally understand what you mean about it being so clean that you're afraid to take it out. If you have a cover with yours, don't hesitate. I have a reissue Princeton cover for mine, which helps but I've also yet to gig mine.

And I should say a special thanks to YOU. I love our long-winded PMs about Princetons. :)

Enjoy the amp!

Read it, toooootally worth it

Also, make sure you have a disposable 1000-1500, because you will end up buying one soon after!

I read it, and I think I'll have to make my own version of one

I may be biased, but that Brownface Princeton thread is probably the best thread ever created, ever.

Have you been to a big box guitar store in awhile? It looks cleaner than most of the new floor stuff!

Thanks for all the love guys!

I ended up scoring this of the 'bay....back in September! :fp: I've been too busy to do any serious picture taking I guess. So its a belated NAD.

Seller was in the Chicago 'burbs, so it didn't have to travel far - although whoever packed it up did one of the best jobs ever. I could have made a thread devoted to how you should ship amps based on this one. He was super cool to deal with and you could tell he really cared about the amp. The first couple of shots are from the listing, actually, since they were better than what I was able to take.

It is too clean, indeed. I sort of paused for a while after I got it thinking...man, usually I rush right into getting caps changed and getting a new old amp up and ready. But given the state its in I might be devaluing this amp if I touch the solder joints. :(
Maybe I'll sell this off to a collector who wants to just look at it and get another beater. Hmmm....
