If all of these EHX Keyboard guitar pedals came out like 10-15 years ago, I'd probably own them, but now I just want the actual keyboards, or their cheaper digital emulators.

It's pretty mind-blowing what effects pedals can do these days.

Looks cool, but for what it's worth, I just sold my Mel9. Never got on with it despite wanting so much to like it. It was very shrill and brittle, and I couldn't get it to sound nice. I fear this pedal would be more of the same, but I hope I'm wrong.

A few of the 'synth' sounds are quite buried in the mix on the demo, which doesn't bode well. I guess the main use for all these EHX guitar>keyboard converter pedals is that they allow people (like me) who are rubbish keyboard players to almost hear what it'd sound like if we could play keyboards a bit better.

Now all I need is a pink '80s guitar and a checkerboard guitar strap and I'm set. Radical!

Nope. Maybe I should've been more explicitly scathing.

I got the sense that the sounds barely pass muster as part of an arrangement but wouldn't bear scrutiny solo.

I would like to try it with bass, a ring modulator and their new "Blurst" filter pedal and try to get more modern synth sounds out of it.

You are talking about using three pedals and a bass to get modern synth sounds. For that kind of money you can get a cool little synth that's a lot more versatile. The note tracking stuff is key here, and it's never really all that amazing. Despite all of the different sound settings they all sort of sound the same. Nine different sounds where you sound like a drunk keyboard player.

+1000
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.
