The Zoom MS-70CDR gets even better

Post by Sir Simon Milligan » Sun Jun 04, 2017 1:55 pm

Saw this on TGP and thought I'd post it here as I know there are several others here who use it. There's a new firmware update which adds 51 new effects.

Cool! Some of those are total novelty effects, but some good new ones. All those compressors are cool to see. This is exciting. I could conceivably play with just this and an overdrive now. What a trip.

I don't know anything about these. How many effects can you use at once?
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Up to 6, depending on processor load.

Awesome. Thanks for posting. I guess I know what I'm doing g tonight. I sort of thought they'd never update this thing.

They can draw power from USB, and receive MIDI over that same USB connection. A perfectly serviceable, MIDI automatable external effect for mixing. These pedals are just fantastic value. I'd been considering getting a second, but my mind's made up now. I'm definitely getting another. I just keep falling deeper in love with these things.

Holy shit! Tomorrow first thing I'm upgrading. It's amazing the stuff this pedal can do with such a small footprint and affordable price.

That's pretty cool! Anybody try one on bass?

Thanks for posting this, I'll try to update mine tonight. I'm thinking more and more of getting another one myself, it's just really handy and inexpensive.

I haven't tried it on bass yet, but I did try the Industrialelectric RM-1N on bass, with a Traynor TS25-B combo, and it sounded fantastic. I'll have to try the Zoom with it, because that would be a MUCH cheaper alternative.

Alas, I have the MS-100BT, discontinued with no extra love. :(

And that was supposed to be their flagship pedal, wasn't it? All bluetooth/smartphone capable and all that.

Are they still updating and selling individual patches for that one? I'm guessing not, if you're not feeling loved. Maybe they're going in pedal release order for the firmware updates?

Well, I updated and toyed with it for a while. Great update. In general lines: The filter FX (auto-wahs, step filter sequences, moog filter, and that sort) are overall very usable and have lots of character.

The compressors sound very good too. Warm and natural to my ears. I liked especially the opto and the grey comp. Very grateful to suddenly have an array of compressors/limiters, my pedalboard was lacking on that department. The few flangers, tremolos and choruses sound very good as well. Bit crusher is another nice addition.

The pitch shift/organ emulator/synth fx are meh at best. The tracking feels pretty late too.

Love this box, it's the pedal that keeps on giving. Navigation can be a bit cumbersome but it's so worth it. Can't think of any other stompbox this size with this many quality effects. Some of the FX are pretty clever, (trem delay is one of my favorites) and you can dig in pretty deep into the parameters of each one.

This pedal is perfect for the ambient shit I love to play so much. :-*

Used mine for bass. It has dedicated Bass effects, including an octaver, pitch shifter, EQ. All very usable, and the tuner is pretty good too.
This is a signature. If you're reading this you've gone past the end of my post.

Updated mine as well. Very cool addition. They've added a whole bunch of stuff I could see limited use for, but would never spend the money on to buy separately or take up pedalboard real estate with.

does anyone use the software editors for the effects in real-time or do you all prefer to just use the knobs on the unit ?
