JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
Saw the other thread was locked regarding the JHS Notaklon. For those of you waiting for your preorder, I ordered the day of release and received my Notaklon last week. I ordered just outside the initial 3000. Hopefully that gives you an idea of what to expect.
It’s sad that the other thread was locked but I understand. What is wrong with all of you immature children who can’t leave well enough alone with JHS? It’s pathetic. If you don’t like them totally cool. But nobody cares about your opinion. Please do us all a favor and try to show a little restraint or take your yammering to TGP. Where all of the other children play. Thank you in advance!

I did not see a single obscenity on that thread. Confused as to why it got locked.
Don't really know who the dude is. The ikea look/theme of the pedal is not for me.

Some stuff got deleted by other mods. I did not see them myself but i'm sure they had their reasons.

There certainly is a lot of hype for what's a fairly bland overdrive pedal.
I had a reply* typed out that vanished mid-locking.
* Along the lines of - I don't need to have personally had a bad interaction with someone to know I don't want to support their company (if for example it's known that they supported regimes/legislation that were homophobic/transphobic or otherwise harmful to anyone in those groups).
Also there is already a thread with 150+ responses discussing Mike Fuller's...um... objectionable-ness. I don't know who 'Mason from Vertex' is.
And this thread is even more confusing; isn't 'TGP' where Josh's main market hang out anyway?
"I don't know why we asked him to join the band 'cause the rest of us don't like country music all that much; we just like Graham Lee."

Re: JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
The mentioning the secondary market for these got me thinking.
Second-hand diy pedals are usually dirt cheap because 1) they're a crapshoot quality-wise, and 2) you're also not buying a branded product (I know there are bigger players like BYOC, but then also see point 1.)
The Notaklon is interesting in that it's technically a DIY pedal - albeit almost pre-built (very, very hard to stuff up from what I've heard, and you can't mess with the components in a practical fashion). But all the technical stuff has been done by the reputable* name on the tin.
Save for the fact that it's practically a pittance to begin with, I wonder if people will try and charge closer to retail than usual for these because it's 'practically' a factory JHS pedal, or if they'll be worth little more than a couple of beers - more likely trade fodder than something someone makes a real effort to sell.
*no statement here on the quality of Josh and his team as individuals, but certainly I've never heard widespread criticism of the quality of that which they produce

curious as to why a given opinion would be unworthy of posting but yours definitely IS worth it
i don't get the joke of the flatpack pedal. is it just a mashup thing, like when someone draws bart simpson with a lightsaber? seems a joke aimed at those who spend more time watching overdrive comparison videos on youtube than they do playing out.

Re: JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
I ordered one, but for a slightly different reason than wanting a JHS Klon clone. I have an idea, but it’s a lot of work to get off the ground.
But I must admit I also ordered one of their budget octave reverbs at the same time with the Black Friday discount. Postage for 2 pedals to the UK was the same, so why not.

I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

You get the Ikea reference, yeah?MechaBulletBill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 3:11 ami don't get the joke of the flatpack pedal. is it just a mashup thing, like when someone draws bart simpson with a lightsaber? seems a joke aimed at those who spend more time watching overdrive comparison videos on youtube than they do playing out.
Compare an actual Ikea product booklet (random cover page shown below) with the notaklon stuff:

Re: JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
I hate Ikea, but I love Lego and pedals. I dont have a Klone either. So the idea of building my own pedal, event if it's mostly pre-build, is great to me. So I want one.
I have ordered one and when I received the shipping delay, I got a refund. I will order another one soon, probably next month, to received it this spring.

If you can solder, there are a bunch of Klon kits online for half the price of this one, and you get to build it for real instead of being patronised.

Re: JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
Well - I think those are the jokes tbh... Making fun of IKEA and also gooping the boards.
Anyway - I think this forum is well moderated and well populated (aka not filled with a bag of d*cks) but there are a few topics that do rile people up here and JHS is one of them. Sometimes those opinions are strongly worded, and sometimes they are stated in a calmer manner but if a thread mentions Mr Adams, MM guitar bar, or Mr Scott.... it will escalate quickly.

Re: JHS Notaklon Pre-order shipping and locking threads
I'm saving my unbuilt first batch one, so I can cash in once it's vintage, like in a year or two.
No, not really, but I am considering not building it, just because I like the complete package.
