What are people doing for custom cables for these days?

I’m putting a new fly rig together with a Boss ES-5 as the centrepiece. The last time I custom made cables were George Ls in 2015. What are people doing for cables these days?

I used a Mogami/Squareplugs kit when I rewired my board a few years ago and bought a few connectors a la carte as I needed straight for in and out of my volume pedal.

It went pretty smoothly and has held up well.

I wouldn’t mess with solderless personally.

Have actually been pretty impressed by the humble Boss solderless cables. They’re slightly fiddly to get right initially, but once you have they’re rock solid. Good jacks too, and the sets are more reasonably priced than say, Evidence monorail… though they’re obviously lovely too.

I've been using the Evidence Audio SIS (solderless) for years with no issues, but I'm not a gigging musician either. I feel like they would hold up very nicely to a gig life though.

I didn't exactly go custom but ordered a bunch of cables from here a little bit ago. The plugs are nice and small and makes managing the board a boatload easier.

I use Sommer the Spirit XXL with black/gold Neutrik jacks for my main cables these days. They take a while to lose their stiffness but they’re indestructible.

Back when I used a pedalboard I ran Cordial CIK 122 in red. Both for patch cables and the 4x10 meters of loom between the board and amp. Neutrik black/gold for the loom, Hicon pancakes for the pedal side of things and Rean NYS 202 at the Boss ES-8 side as it gets pretty tight back there.
If I had to do it over again I’d probably pick the Rean or Squareplug tiny pancakes over the Hicon ones but those weren’t available back then.

Though buying a stack of those modern “flatpatch” cables would also be pretty tempting.

I still have the patch cables I used with the ES-8. If you weren’t on the other side of the world we could’ve probably worked something out..

I used to use George Ls as well. Now I use EBS flat cables. Not custom, but easy to keep out of the way.

I did the same. I got tired of my George L's always dying and needing remade. I sold the whole lot and gradually started buying various length EBS ones. They aren't as elegant as properly sized ones, but I'm really happy with them.

A 3rd here for EBS flats. Seemingly indestructible.

Same here, went from George L to evidence SIS to EBS flat and they're by far the smallest and most reliable.

Canare GS-6 and whichever Switchcraft plug (226 or 281) is applicable.

I still have Neutrik plugs on the longer (guitar -> pedal board -> amp) cables I made over a dozen years ago but they're massive and don't work so well on pedalboards. Switchcraft right angle plug a tad easier to work with and solder to, too.

Ampturco from PA. The only cables in which I could hear a difference. Riff whips to be exact.

I have some PigHogs that I like because they’re affordable and have a lifetime warranty.

+4 or whatever for EBS flats. They have been serving me well and although they look like weird flat spaghetti if they aren't tucked away, they work great.
