ibanez DE7 crappy switch?

Post by Leo » Mon Oct 27, 2008 10:09 am

so i hear horror stories about the crappy switch on the ibanez DE7. while i do like the pedal, is there anyway to mod the poor switch to have a button switch like the EHX or MXR pedals?

Yeah, I got a DE7 and the switch broke the same day.  ;D  I had a new switch in there the day after that though, and it's worked fine ever since.  :P

I'm waiting for a DS7 (the distortion box) that a friend is giving me for free..I'm quite sure that there's enough room inside for putting a regoular swtch..the original one is a crappy 2mm piece of plastic..

I'm resurrecting this thread after looking at your auction..so, don't you replace that switch with an original replacement? Can I have some pics of how and where you put the new one? I got a DS7 for free and it's not that bad without clipping diodes..

Here's some better pictures of the switch I put in.  I cut a big square hole right on the front of the pedal, and it looks like the enclosure was originally designed for one of the same style of momentary switches that you can find in Boss pedals.  The new switch I picked up at RadioShack, you may have seen ones like it before.  Actuating the pedal is so easy it's almost scary.  You feel like you're waiving your foot over it.

something like this? Image
so you had to cut off the pcb where the original pcb is soldered on?

Yeah, that's the switch.  There's actually a seperate pc board just for holding the original crappy switch, so I just de-soldered that.  And like I mentioned in my For Sale ad, the second output jack had to come out to make room for the switch.  That was on it's own pcb too.
