What am I supposed to do with a phaser?

I bought a Boss Phase Shifter (PH-3) around 2001, why? I don't know. I think I liked the "step" feature which makes your guitar sound like Zelda is being "healed" from that fairy.
What the hell am I supposed to do with a phaser?
I find that the reverb from my Fender Bandmaster Reverb is the only effect I really appreciate on clean sounds. I also love the ProCo Rat to play along with In Utero and shit like that, but I don't find myself ever writing hard rock.
Should I just sell this thing so I can finally get a looper and take my "solo" playing to the next step? What can you do with a phaser that doesn't sound like ultra-cheesy shit? The only thing I can do with it is play the intro to STP's "Army Ants" and Nada Surf's "Telescope." It just sounds ridiculous, no?
Thanks in advance.

Matched with a good dirty overdrive, a phaser sounds incredible. Dial it low and slow...

I use mine as an alternative dynamic change to fuzz/more distortion.

Yep. Distortion> Phaser> Delay.
Set your phaser nice and slow and grind out some heavy riffs with a decent length delay... ooooo... melting guitar! Stick a not-too-fast trem between the phaser and delay and it's trippy riff-tastic.

I use mine for outros in a few songs here and there, usually mixed with distortion.

I was never into phasers until I listened to Ok Computer. imo that's how a phaser should be used.

Yeah, that's a good one, Tame Impala use phasors clean very effectively, something I haven't really been able to do with the one I own, probably will be my next equipment upgrade.
I found an example of how I use it most of the time-:
http://snd.sc/xfFjWc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (on the lead guitar, around the 1:45 mark through the end of the track).

What on OK Computer uses a phaser? Never realized that. Maybe you could point me to some examples?
Also, those saying "make sure it's never turned on" are agreeing that it sounds pretty gimicky?
