Warpaint at Coachella
so i was watching the Coachella live stream the other night and chanced across this outfit called Warpaint and was kind of hypnotized. cool sounds, interesting arrangements and a kick-ass drummer. if you only watch one bit, check out the final song that starts about the 41:00 mark and runs for the next 10 minutes.

I think you'll really like their first album. Fairly amorphous and interesting. (Still working through the second myself).dc wrote:so i was watching the Coachella live stream the other night and chanced across this outfit called Warpaint and was kind of hypnotized. cool sounds, interesting arrangements and a kick-ass drummer. if you only watch one bit, check out the final song that starts about the 41:00 mark and runs for the next 10 minutes.

funny, I've been watching their videos all day. I love them, derivative or not I really appreciate the sound and its actually one of my big influences guitarwise. Each member is super solid and I really like the interplay they have with the guitars a lot of times, plus both Theresa and Emily have voices that are right up my alley, even in their roughest moments.

I like them as musicians. They play some really great things but I'm very disappointed in the new record, especially since Flood worked on it.
Their vocals are my least favorite part and the new songs are too meandering, IMO.
I was hoping their vocals would be a lot better by now (I played with them back in '09) but all 3 of them (both guitarists & the Bassist) still sound like whiny high school girls.
I still like to watch them perform

the only song of theirs I still can listen to is not actualy a song of theirs.
That happened after I saw them live - it was like a jam-band or something

I'm the opposite. Whisperit hit the nail,on the head with the jam band comment. It's the bass player in particular that offends my delicate sensibilities, she'd be much happier joining the dread forces of the RHCP and other Californian bro rock noodlers.OffYourFace wrote:I like them as musicians.
I've few rules when it comes to post punk influenced music but the real biggie is the bass goes- dun dun dun, not -beedily beedily beedily (Wobble excepted). I bought their first EP but before I played it I saw a pic of Fleas daughter giving it the old Level 42 mega wide hand span and my bass alert flicked to Bass Con 3.
Anyhow....it's a cruel world that values Warpaint over Mushy.

i'm with you on that! I think they are great in general as well, and actually prefer the latest album to the previous one, even though that one was on steady repeat when it came out too.Stereordinary wrote:Man, I'm kind of opposite of a lot of you guys. I really like their new album!
I saw them live in LA and they are a really good live band, and surprisingly intriguing to watch. i also think it's really cool to see 4 girls rock out i'll have to check out the coachella gig. gotta support your friends!

I don't know, what sold me on Warpaint was this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC5bOL1Gk3g" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I think they've all got decent chops. The drummer, especially, she's fantastic. And I think the new album is pretty cool, but it's not like my favorite thing in the world.
