saw them live not too long ago. I was really surprised how noisy and energetic they are, some 30 years after their heyday. great show, I'm gonna give this new album a listen

Listening to it now. Had the signed heavy weight vinyl, cd, cassette all singing all dancing signed photo and other Mary Chain propaganda, delivered from their website to my door. Missed the Glasgow gig last night, mind you.
A couple of the songs came out on Linda Reid's Sister Vanilla album from 2007....which is worth a listen for JAMC enthusiasts.
I noticed Youth produces this 'new' album. I'm not sure how new the rest of the songs are, but, I'm enjoying side 3 of the vinyl at present. I'll report back later....like in a few months...as to how well the lot stands up over that time.

It's much better than I expected it to be. Could be shorter though.

It is fucking good, I was expecting a very boring album though.

positivity of reviews here makes me think i should think about it again. i listened to one maybe two songs in the guardian pre-review a month or two ago & wasn't that impressed tbh. sort of formula & radio-friendly surf-with-a-light-fuzz.
but then i never got on with darklands & a lot of their less-evil post-psychocandy output.
overproduction is their achilles heel. too many layers & too much compression makes a smudgy muddy nothing sound. but if new album is more stripped-down maybe it will be ok with me.
