What are some of your favorite pedal steel guitar songs?

try the album "Slider -- Ambient Excursions for Pedal Steel Guitar" by Bruce Kaphan. besides his own albums he's a pretty well-traveled session guy, appearing on various albums by REM, Red House Painters, American Music Club, David Byrne, on and on -

Really like BJ Cole who you might have heard on David Sylvian, Brian Eno and a raft of other artists records.

He worked on Billie Ray Martin's 4 Ambient Tales which I really like aand which is far, far outside the country uses of pedal steel. If you buy the vinyl, the second 12 is instrumentals.

That's Lloyd Green on pedal steel. He has to be one of the most recorded steel players. Did a ton of work with many artists. Classic Nashville sound. Some of his best work was recorded on this live album by Charlie Pride. Textbook licks and how to back a singer. Live At Panther Hall

Probably my favorite moment in Country music pedal steel is Tom Brumley with Buck Owens Together Again
Here he is doing more crying steel on the aptly named Cryin' Time

I'm a fan of Buck and the Buckaroos circa 1960s and Brumley played steel during that period. My favorite "west coast" player.

Yep. I lean Bakersfield for pedal steel and he's pretty much why. Listen to pretty much everything he did with Waylon Jennings and it's just a master class in pluck and wiggle.

Fans of Mooney (and James Burton) should check out a favorite album of mine Corn Pickin' and Slidin' a dozen country favorites done instrumental style. It also features the bass playing of Joe Osborn (The Carpenters and about a million other records). It's a nice format if you like to hear the players stretch out without vocals.
