How did it go?
P.S. I put one of those pictures in the Logo thread, with both of us in it (if you haven't seen it)

Re: Doing my first real gig tonight...it's been more than a decade!
we went down really well!
had 80 people come to see us, plus the people for the other band....overall about 120 people is a small-ish venue room, it was really packed and had a great vibe
there was one messup, that I cannot believe the crowd didn't notice (I checked with friends in the crowd randomly afterwards)
the nerves kicked in I think....so we played slightly too fast...but overall, it went better than I thought it would.
so the 1st gig's out of the way...now we need to focus on getting shows booked for people we don't really know (70% of the crowd at least was friends - which actualy made me very nervous!!)
so yeah, the Jazzmasters buzzed and roared onstage!!
god it goes so fast when you're playing up there...felt like 2 mins!
so thanks for all the good vibes, everyone!!!
there is a video of the gig somewhere...dunno if the lighting was good enough, but we'll see what it looks like...
loads of flashes were going off (and no, it wasn't the whiskey! ) so I should have some pics soon-ish

Sounds cool... Congrats!
I have to say, the '61 would probably never have seen the view of an audience had it stayed over here...
Good job!

glad to hear it went well.. the crowed rarely notices screw ups, especially with a new band. as long as you don't stop and give one another dirty looks it usually goes right over everyone else's heads so don't worry too much about it. Man it does go by quickly.. especially with everything you put into it before hand. Shorter the set the better though imo.. I can't even count the amount of bands I've liked but got sick of hearing after 40+ minutes. Save that for when you've got an actual discography!

Awesome. I would really love to get back into playing music but I don't know a sole in LA that I could play with. It's quite depressing sometimes. Especially since my old band seems to be doing well without me (depsite that the songs aren't as good without an offset roaring along).

Ah, I'm in that same boat. Just moved to a new city and I don't know anyone, but gawd I want to play music again. Especially when my VI gets here.
My old band seems to be nothing though, except mastering our EP. I'd be lying if I said there was no satisfaction in that.

Never mind, in my experience fish are crap guitarists anyway.Jay wrote: but I don't know a sole in LA that I could play with.
I'm in the same boat as you guys .. I have a few guys in Oz I could play or at least write songs with, but I don't know anyone over here. I might have to go back to playing bass for a while - at least I'd get some gigs and get to meet a few other musicians.

Re: Doing my first real gig tonight...it's been more than a decade!
it's hard to find people to play with....it took me a decade to get into this band....
I moved to London when I was 17 and thought I'd be in a band in no time...I was so, so wrong....
I'm the kind of guy that goes to a party sees someone play the guitar...says nothing, eventualy gets onto the guitar and plays until people look bored...so over the years loads of my friends have been encouraging me to join a band, as many people knew I played
they had no idea how many people I almost formed a band with ...but the potential bandmates were either losers, drunks, junkies, couldn't play, never on time, clinicaly depressed or all of the above!
true stories!
god bless London!

yeah finding good people to make music with is hard. even though i´ve been in a bunch of different bands, it has always been more or less the same people.zhivago wrote: they had no idea how many people I almost formed a band with ...but the potential bandmates were either losers, drunks, junkies, couldn't play, never on time, clinicaly depressed or all of the above!

hehe...I got a drummer friend who suffers from clinical depression...his problem is that he takes his medication, then goes of drinking loads and takes drugs....that makes him really unstableOrang Goreng wrote:Man, you just described Orang Goreng.zhivago wrote: but the potential bandmates were either losers, drunks, junkies, couldn't play, never on time, clinicaly depressed or all of the above!

I dunno what to do with him...he's a phenomenal drummer.
