Darker Waves this Saturday. My wife spent extra on a "superfan" bundle, since it was my birthday yesterday (44). The biggest perk, is expedited entry and merch line access. The Darker stage and Waves stage are at opposite ends of the beach area, and the Tiki stage is a smaller stage in-between them. My must see bands are Devo, B-52s, and Tears for Fears.
We've both seen Human League

Man, that is a lineup for the ages. Happy birthday to you!

Not sure when I last posted here but it's been a stellar year so far.
They Might Be Giants in Covington, KY in March
Sparks and They Might Be Giants at the Hollywood Bowl (!) in July
Circle Jerks in Cincinnati in September
U2 in Vegas in October
Soft Machine in Cincinnati in October
Steve Hackett (playing old Genesis) in Cincinnati in October

Last week we saw Depeche Mode and DIIV in Detroit and this weekend we're heading over to Pittsburgh to see The Fixx and maybe take in a Penguins game. Next year will start off interesting with some Madonna and (I just found out) Digable Planets.

!!!! I didn't know that even existed! This is a dream festival for me!

In complete contrast, I saw Metallica twice last weekend in Detroit!

And Happy Birthday!

I was up there earlier in the week, part of me wishes I'd stayed for that. The setlists were killer.

I saw La Colonie de Vacances last week for the fifth time, it's getting better every time I see them (5th time since 2011).
I might have talked about them on OSG before, it's the fusion of 4 french noise/math rock bands who play with four stages at each side of a room, they used to keep each band on its stage but recently they've rearranged everyone so it's its own thing, with the separate band identites completely blended into one giant orchestra, it's glorious, I've rarely seen people having so much fun at a show.
To give you a rough idea, a photo of the show :

Local opener Lonlax were great, I wasn't aware of them but I'll try to catch them if they play locally more.
I'm not into amps but they had a great looking and sounding rig :

Bob Mould doing solo electric in Edinburgh tonight. Support act is also solo electric, but I'm joining in on one song, playing E-bowed bass through a delay.

Darker Waves was mostly great. New Order playing a stage at the complete other end of the festival area from the B-52s and Tears for Fears (and overlapping sets), meant that I only saw New Order simulcast from the wrong end. But I got to see everybody else I wanted to. I'd been wanting to see DEVO and The B-52s for 20+ years and they were great.

Next is Danny Brown's Bruiser Thanksgiving X, on Wednesday night, with Danny Brown & JPEGMAFIA.

Not sure if it counts as a gig but next up is "the Tarantino Twist Show" here in Odense, which promises surf guitars galore with a bit of burlesque...
After that, Psyched Up Janis (Sune from the Raveonettes old band) probably a couple of times - hopefully one of which will be with the Courettes warming up for them, Still Corners in Copenhagen and Janes Addiction in Hamburg.
2023 has been a bit of a sparse year compared with 2022 - the Mission, PJ Harvey, Tremolo Beer Gut, Powersolo and Glasvegas being the only ones that spring to mind.

Going to Andrew Wasylyk and Gerard Love in January - my first ever Celtic Connections gig - and Ghost Woman in February.

A gig a month is about right at this point in my life - especially if they're on a school night! :D

Testament - cool show. no opener. played the first two albums which are the ones i like. odd seeing a thrash band in a seated-only venue. it was at a casino. won $40.
Jesus Jones - good show, bad sound
Cranes x2 (1st show was messy. 2nd show much better). Dearly opened both shows.
Darren Haymen (Hefner). Last minute addition

Miki Berenyi Trio with Lol/Budgie's band
Melt-Banana
La Femme
the Exploited
Pulp
Air
Devotchka
Kreator/Testament/Possessed

Well this has seriously turned into quite the concert year. Last month the wife and I saw Madonna in Detroit, which was amazing. In April I'll be hitting up Guided by Voices for the first time in ages. In May there's They Might Be Giants, The Alarm with Gene Loves Jezebel (the Jay version) and Kraftwerk is playing for the first time in our humble town since 1975.
