Re: The non-stoner stoner/sludge/doom/psyche thread
Thanks all, some good stuff there! I've added Sinistro to my Bandcamp wishlist - enjoying the cinematic aspects of their stuff.
Dead Meadow I've seen a couple of times, and quite enjoyed without being overwhelmingly enthusiastic for. Same with Arboretum, who occupy a similar kind of space.
Chelsea Wolfe, I really like the first few tracks on Abyss, but my interest wanes as the album goes on.
Despite what I said about the whole "stoner" aspect of it all being somewhat tedious, I had Electric Wizard's Dopethrone blasting while I was tidying my flat at the weekend - an absolute classic of the genre.

I know they're maybe second to Electric Wizard in terms of stoner/doom popularity, but I'm stuck on Sleep at the minute. If I've got something to do, like a chore or whatever, Dopesmoker is monotonous enough as to help concentration and mask the length of time spent.
I keep hearing bands with sounds I love and then discovering that most of their sound is mainly down to lots and lots of amps/watts/speakers, then lamenting that I'll probably never get to do that kind of thing.

I'm trying to find a way to take my both my model t and orange amp to gigs. Maybe for special occasions or venues that'll let me do such an ungodly thing.MechaBulletBill wrote:I know they're maybe second to Electric Wizard in terms of stoner/doom popularity, but I'm stuck on Sleep at the minute. Just ordered Sub Rosa's new one "For This We Fought The Battle of Ages" on vinyl. Gothy funereal doom stuff, and I have to admit one of the main reasons for shelling out on the vinyl is the artwork.

Beginning of the year I came across this song by Sacri Monti in some skate movie.
Sacri Monti - Staggered in Lies
Less doom than psychodelic, but I thought it fits here.
Although that's not really the music I usually listen to, I like it.
Not the reinvention of the wheel as hardly anything in that genre, but it has some cool psyched out lead guitars.
Older Dungen is great too!

Today's listening has been Squidlord - bluesy-and-squelchy instrumental doom from Asheville NC, which, as the name suggests, is squid-themed (presumably because squid are an ever-present danger in Asheville).

I forgot to mention Kadavar. Talk about a refreshing throwback. late 60s/early 70s hard panning, not super fuzzy, very straight ahead. if you are into sir lord baltimore and stuff like that, this will be up your alley.

I don't know if it counts, but I saw Sunn 0))) live and it was one of the most memorable gigs I've ever been to. Although not the best.
