Earlier on Jools Holland

Post by dezb1 » Tue Oct 25, 2016 5:59 pm

Watching Wilco on Jools holland... WHAT A LOT OF S***E, don't get this band at all. That song was dire the Internet goes on about how good a guitarist Nels Cline is... this song didn't showcase any greatness... utter
b****cks, to the point where it actually angered me.

I'm trying to find this clip you are talking about but can only find older appearances on Jools Holland. Damn, Jeff Tweedy aged way worse than Obama over the past 8 years.

Wilco is the best, but haven't heard their new album.

Nels Cline is great...

in the Nels Cline Singers, Nels Cline Trio, Banyan and the other 150 or so collaborative projects that aren't Wilco.

This is the first time I've seen / heard them and was less than impressed... they looked like they were enjoying themselves is the only positive thing I could say about the performance

Yeah, Wilco are kind of lackluster, do we need a thread about it?

Feel free to totally ignore the thread... reading is not compulsory.

The mistake you made was tuning into Jools who I've had an Aneurin Bevan style 'burning hatred' for going back to 1982 and him spraying the redone and totally murdered Uncertain Smile with boogie woogie piano diarrhoea.

Every year we have a pretty lavish and hedonistic party on a Hogmanay and every year I am forced to ask some imagination free dullard to GTF out when they find a TV and want to watch the 'hootenanny's' heinous Q magazine approved, 50 quid man bilge.

^^^

Mark E Smith had a clause in his Later contract stipulating that Jools was forbidden from playing the rinky tink over The Fall, which was fine but surely the best way to deal with this was to refrain from appearing at all or just telling him to keep his fucking lid shut in person.

I once saw Jools interviewed with his great mate Clapton on the Monaco grid, all arms around each other and mucho smug bonhomie. Literally sick making.

Jools is just utter shite. Exactly as David said, £50 quid man fayre.

The sound quality is shocking, the band's can't hear themselves, suiting mainly unplugged/minimal acts, bands with huge budgets or bands that comprise mainly of DI'd instruments.

Can't judge any band after being on there, its cringeworthy watching little glances between band members as they're thinking "what the fuck is this".

I didn't know this. To be honest I've mostly experienced Later secondhand since I didn't have a TV early on. I can remember two performances clearly; Orbital doing Satan which seemed a big fuck off to the whole cosy round the old Joanna, music is a craft (with official City and Guilds certification) not an art set and the Unthankswho sound as good in a forest as they do in a massive theatre, so even Jools couldn't bring them down. I can't be arsed looking but if Paul Weller hasn't been on Later at least a dozen times I'll Antichrist my own testicles.

Jools lack of a belt and a neck always bugged me but he can't help the latter. Hated him on the Tube too, though back then he was smart enough to stand next to the Paula Yates virus and let her draw the ire.
