Opening for The Wedding Present (sort of). So Weird.

Post by echobaseone » Wed Aug 01, 2018 3:08 pm

Oliver Elf Army are about to go international. Saturday, August 11 finds us at David Gedge's festival in Brighton. With Cinerama kicking things off, we're hoping to have someone to play to! Leaving my beloved JM at home though, seems a lot of hassle for a half hour set!
Anyway, anyone in the area interested, or anyone already going, come say hi. We should be playing @ 4:30pm.

That’s awesome! I’d be there if I could. TWP and Cinerama are incredible bands! I saw Cinerama about three times in the 2000s, but I’ve never seen TWP!

any band that can work "panzerkampfwagen" into a pop lyric deserves international fame - :)

i vaguely know (small town small scene) Katharine, who used to play bass with them until very recently (beautiful cherryflake mustang bass) but doesn't anymore i don't think, or maybe she's on and off. she's a milliner, designer, tons of things, so maybe it clashed with her other dreams.

she's kind of a hero role model to female musicians here because she's true high glam big talent and has really done it; proper albums, big tours, big stuff. so shades the local macho bloosers who strut around like heroes but are fete and weddings level.

as for the weddoes, i've seen them a couple of times as supports and am not sure about them. some of their early stuff 'go out and get em boy' & 'once more' has a real angsty tension and urgency to it.

but when i saw them they were joking around constantly (running to and fro across the stage at each other, mock spinal tap way and comedy poses) which probably broke up the monotony of a long tour for them, which is fair enough, but it seemed to trivialise their act that night, which seemed self-defeating.
it may just be they felt that other acts on the bill were being too up-themselves and pompous that night, so that was their way of distancing themselves from them. brits from the north are famously anti-pomposity and pretension. edgy gedge.

anyway, i hope your opening set gets off to a flyer. brighton is fab.
