I kinda like that video, the ridiculous factor is awesomely high there...
Name your ten bands. Let’s have a snob off. These bands are brilliant:
The Brentwoods
Subsonics
Manic Attracts
Little Mack
Dead Ghosts
TRMRS
The Traditional Fools
Grass Widow
Striborg
I Shalt Become

I prefer Hannah as
Cold Beat, though Captured Tracks was a decent label back when Grass Widow was on it.

Damn, I never thought I would see The Brentwoods listed in a forum...well...ever! I’ll have to check out the rest of the list.

Back when I was in a band and trying to make it, this list of bands things was always a test from others to see if you were "cool." I remember just making names up and people would be like "Oh yeah, I've heard of them but I haven't heard them yet" and I'd say "Oh they're fantastic." If I recall, The Elvis Frogs was the made-up name I would always use.
Lists of bands are pretty useless to me because I will normally only like maybe 2-4 tracks out of 10 on albums of bands I already like. So if somebody says check out such and such band, chances are I won't like whatever random song I happen to stumble upon. I love it when people recommend a specific song. I tend to get obsessed with a song or two for a couple weeks and just listen to that over and over. Then I'll fall into a valley of not listening to much or just background stuff until another song captures my attention. Shadowplay's thread has become a go-to for me when I feel like finding something new. I really appreciated the Hampshire & Foat: Galaxies Like Grains of Sand recommendation from several months ago.
Right now, I'm in a valley, but a couple weeks ago I couldn't stop listening to Fists of Fury and Streetfighter Mas from Kamasi Washington's new Heaven and Earth record. I didn't recognize any of the bands on DeathJag's list.

any of my fellow music snobs into the dischord records band the black eyes? 2 drummers, 2 bass players (on some songs) and some insane fucking noise. the first album is super cool. the 2nd album is super weird but i still love it.
offset guitars resident bass player.

i'm digging this goon sax shit, noyce
You might like
the Stroppies who are also from down that way and come on like The Go Betweens or maybe The Perfect Disaster or The Clean go early Stereolab or a wee bit like Snapper. They are a wee bit too floppy jangle for me to love wholeheartedly but i like some of their songs like
Nothing at All.

I am a music lover, though I have been accused of being a snob. I like what I like and I don’t care if anyone else likes it - ok, that’s not 100% true, because I do get annoyed sometimes when people with similar tastes (generally speaking) refuse to acknowledge the goodness of something I know damn well they’d like (based on THEIR tastes) if they’d stop being assholes and just give it a proper listen. Sure there is plenty of music I don’t like, but I will give pretty much anything a fair chance before I dismiss it. Hell, there are records/bands that I’ve gone back to multiple times based on the fact that people with decent taste like them, even if my initial reaction was a big “meh.”
