Maybe you can help me with a playlist?...
So, I teach yoga.
I'd had a general rule of thumb for years that less is more & it's better to have zero distractions. No floor to ceiling mirrors, as little outside noise as possible & definitely no music. But, I'm slowly coming round to actually enjoying it in the background when I practice & I've started using it in classes.
Now, I'm with the vast majority of folk (with any decent taste in music) who say that "yoga music" is truly awful (exhibit A) but there's loads of stuff I hear from time to time that really works. Just nice, mellow, backgroundy stuff that doesn't get in the way & become too distracting.
Here's my recent playlist....
The Firefly Dusk - Voice Of The Seven Woods
Can You Imagine Nothing? - Kikagaku Moyo
Music Is Love - David Crosby
Penobska Oakwalk - Quilt
It's A Sight To Behold - Devendra Banhart
Deadweight On Velveteen - Jose Gonzalez
Shingle River - Fern Knight
The Old Laughing Lady - Neil Young
Stone on the Water - Badly Drawn Boy
Chan Chan - Buena Vista Social Club
Mommy, What's A Funkadelic? - Funkadelic
Crosses - Jose Gonzalez
Scarborough Fair - Simon & Garfunkel
Terrapin - Syd Barrett
Porpoise Song (Theme From 'Head') - The Monkees
Grantchester Meadows - Pink Floyd
On The Road Again - Canned Heat
Super Falling Star - Stereolab
Quite folky & hippified but that's me Still, I'm really open to suggestions of anything you folks think may fit the bill.

You're not really playing Mommy, What's a Funkadelic, are you?
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

It works really well. I just have to talk through the slightly, er, sexual vocals that crop up from time to time.
By the way, it's not sit around doing barely anything yoga, it's Vinyasa which is far more energetic. Lots of movement & deep breathing so much of the finer details of the music are lost, fortunately (in this case).

I don't do a lot of yoga and meditation, but when I do, I usually play Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden. It's (for the most part) gentle, psychedelic, relaxing without being sedating or boring and easy enough to listen to without paying attention. Especially track 1 and 2, "The Rainbow" and "Eden".

"Hey, ladies, welcome to yoga," he said. "I've got the steam going real hot tonight, you're probably going to need a cold drink. Let's get some music going- oh! This old CD. Where did that come from I wonder. Anybody like Marvin Gaye?"

Bloody hell, David! Thanks!
All these are great...

A few of the others get a little too moody & eerie for a class (not that I'd mind but I have to think of keeping it reasonably neutral & lighthearted). Such a shame I couldn't use Parallelograms. That track's great but it all goes a little too lysergic! Heheheh!! That track by Bibio is absolutely spot on. Love it!
I'd happily use more from your first list but I want to avoid leaning too much on female folk vocals. It's good to have more of a varied selection.
Really appreciate the time you've taken. Any more that spring to mind, let me know. Absolutely no rush though as I've pretty much got a whole 90 minute class-worth of new stuff.

Glad to be of use.
Quickly;
Lots of suitable Bibio, you might also enjoy the live sessions, I think he's got a really nice playing style.
Haikuesque
Dye the Water Green
The Palm of Your Wave could be nice before or after neil young
Bibio - À tout à l'heure
Don't Summarise My Summer Eyes
Sycamore Silhouetting
You Won't Remember
Wren Tails
Raincoat
Raxiera
Lovers Carvings

I had the Fauns on the new one but I took it off.
The Fauns - Fragile
The Fauns - Fragile (Clint Mansel Mix) could be nice next to the Emiliana Torrini Kid Koala track

Re: Maybe you can help me with a playlist?...
Thanks again. I'll use Fauns definitely, probably just the first part of the remix version, without the drums.
I think the Bibio stuff needs a bit of moderation as it keeps oscillating between euphoric & melancholic. The first track, Petals, is still the standout track.
