Re: Ryan Adams, amirite?
I’m a big fan of his work. He’s always been a self absorbed dick with a history of substance abuse. For quite a while, it seemed that his shows were a lottery for whether he’d have a meltdown or not. But this behaviour is a different level.
It’s not just the (alleged) grooming of the underage girl. He’s still a sexual predator if he’s using his position of power to lure female musicians to sleep with him or threatening to withold recordings to try and make them bend to his will.

Re: Ryan Adams, amirite?
You're absolutely right, it is. I merely added that caveat as when I wrote that, I'd only just read the article and there still has to be some kind of due process before that can be fully leveled at him, but it doesn't make it any less disgusting.
I guess it can also be hard to accept that someone you admire, regardless of weather it's personal or artistically, can do something that doesn't chime with the image you've built up of them in your head. I guess the answer is don't put people on pedestals, but that's always easier said than done and Shadowplay is right in that we are massively selective about who we collectively take down for this exact behavior. To some people, Jimmy Page is a hero but R Kelly is a peadophile despite there not being a huge amount of difference in their actions.

If he could not fuck up the value of my Patty Duke/Glamour Puss split that would be nice.

I was never bothered by disliking him for no good reason, but yeah...marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Feb 13, 2019 7:06 pmIt used to bother me that I disliked him for no good reason. Maybe I don’t need to worry about that anymore.
I'll just leave this here...

Re: Ryan Adams, amirite?
Man, I tried to like him after waiting in the crowd at Shaky Knees through 5 sets to see Tame Impala - his was one of the 5 we sat through. He's talented, but his brand of alt-country just didn't jive with me live, and all the times I tried to listen online I just couldn't get on board. Maybe one or two of the more rock oriented live versions on Letterman or something. I even tried to like him harder because he used Jazzmasters.
That said, he always seemed like a sleazebag and this just proves it. Such a bummer that those women had to deal with his bullshit.
Also his bad influence on Albert Hammond Jr.'s (The Strokes guitarist) heroin addiction was always enough to make me dislike him. I wish Julian Casablancas would have kicked his ass back then. (https://www.nme.com/news/music/julian-c ... rn-2231441)
I'm interested to see if his career survives this, but I also don't give a shit.
Believe women. I hope they get some relief from finally being able to tell their stories.

I am glad to see that more and more of these types are being exposed. This bullshit has been prevalent throughout the industries of music, film, television, and every other place where people exploit their authority and power.
I know that there will be some false claims along the way and that will cause a number of people to complain about #metoo, but come on. There are SO MANY more victims on the decidedly worse end of the scale.
Please keep speaking out so we can keep chipping away at this and maybe someday we can end it.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

there's a lot of sketch, imho too much sketch for him not to be considered a creeper.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

I could never stand that "summer of '69" song. Gawd, how I hate that song!

Admittedly, this is all a lot easier to handle when you think the person in question is a shithead to begin with.

Re: Ryan Adams, amirite?
No, it hasn't... although the screen grabs of the conversations he had with the underage girl are quoted verbatim, and those are pretty disturbing.
Some of the rest of it I find less concerning, but that is pretty terrible.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

This is the first thing that came to my mind as well. The book "Meet Me in the Bathroom" does not paint a flattering portrait of Adams. Julian is cool and confronting RA makes him even cooler.rbrcbr wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 8:39 amAlso his bad influence on Albert Hammond Jr.'s (The Strokes guitarist) heroin addiction was always enough to make me dislike him. Re: Ryan Adams, amirite?
Not to defend Adams, but the entertainment industry has been covering up this kind of behavior of men in power for centuries.
As has the religious community.
And the parenting community.
I've seen individuals who personally covered up this sort of behavior in their own microcosm, later express shock & awe when it was reported in other areas.
Again, not to excuse the worst or equate misogyny lite with actual criminal acts, but hell, this has been going on right under our noses for our entire lives. Almost daily we get the opportunity to support or condemn societal subversion of women, subversion which makes it easier for the worst to get away with actual crimes, or the slightly less bad to require favors in exchange for promises of advantage.
Sorry, I'm finding the surprised reaction of society disingenuous.
Maybe here it's just about this one guy who seemed better than all that...
