For one reason or other, the greatest album cover you can think of
I've never seen one of these threads on here, but I bet there's been at least one over the years.
Anyways, post album covers that are great for some reason.
Very much inspired by The Melvins - Electroretard. I think this has to be the funniest album cover I've seen maybe ever.

Love the Melvins. But I'll go with Dinosaur Jr. Green Mind or Goo, by Sonic Youth. Or for something more out there (here anyway) Ghost in the Machine by The Police.
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!

Unknown Pleasures. Music and science combined - recording of pulsar CP 1919. With a cool back story on the origin of the image ...
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/sa ... over-video
Nerd heaven ... there is even Python code written in recent years to regenerate the image from the original pulsar data ...

"I just knew I wanted to make a sound that was the complete opposite of a Les Paul, and that’s pretty much a Jaguar." Rowland S. Howard.

Off the top of my head probably Dazzle Ships or Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (s/t).
I also really enjoy the work of Neville Brody, his Cabaret Voltaire sleeves are well known and a perfect match for the music (possibly Micro-Phonies is the pick) but his work with Clock DVA is great too.
Jon Wozencroft's work at Touch is also inspirational. One time Jon actually popped round to mine with my order I'd made and we talked music and design for hours and we've stayed in touch.
Metal Box still impresses and as a concept the Chain Reaction label was solid.
Probably the best two sleeve designers still producing are Frances Castle (Clay Pipe Music and commissons ) and Julian House (Ghost Box records and commissions). I always look forward to their work. I also like quite a lot of Johnny Jewel's sleeves for Glass Candy and The Chromatics in particular.

forgot Andy Votel in my more modern designers section his Demdike Stare sleeves are ace and he's constantly producing good work for Finders Keepers.

The state of world affairs, changes in society, their status in the mainstream music world...
what was "expected" of "professional" record art...
you just couldn't make a statement any bolder than that.
And then, there's the deeper levels of uniqueness, connection, personalization and relationship as the covers dirty, wear and degrade...

This one is a favorite because I think it says a lot about the band and their philosophy. The way it puts you in the car with Watt, riding in the back, the clever use of the rear view mirror, taking the exit into San Pedro...inviting us to take a ride into their world for awhile.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Always been a fan of the original sandpaper sleeve for The Return of the Durutti Column:
An idea knicked from the Situationist International's Mémoires...for when destroying the system starts with destroying your other records! Lore has it that these were put together from 12" sheets of sandpaper and wallpaper paste by members of Joy Division and A Certain Ratio in Alan Erasmus's apartment

My copy has been used to ignite matches over the years by a right bunch of disrespectful swine.
The Toltec logo is arguably the best band Logo IMO. The text isn't quite what it could be though.
Optimo music's logo is a hommage.

I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.
