Any Bill Orcutt fans out there? I'll confess I'd never heard of him until a few years ago, even though I now understand he was a contemporary of golden era-Sonic Youth and apparently opened from them with his noise band Harry Pussy.
Orcutt's last few albums have really been something. I'm not usually into improv, I like drums and pure solo playing usually doesn't draw me in. But Orcutt plays beautifully and ferociously. His electric tone is the platonic ideal of Fender single coils into a Fender combo amp. He's really worth your time if you want to hear something really pure and unique.

He lives in Philly now and has a band called "Taiwan Housing Project" that is phenomenal, and which I've seen live around here.

Hello,
I've seen him play solo in Brussels a few years ago. definitely a superb musician ! HIs music is out of the too usual bluesy guitar school.
he was playing acoustic then. I am a fan !

Just bought "Odds Against Tomorrow" after hearing/reading all the year-end praise. "The Conversion Experience" really is, for me, a conversion experience. Makes me want to play guitar, and then when I do, I want to put it down and listen to the album again.

Re: Bill Orcutt
Orcutt has got a genius to his guitar playing. His tone is, like, the perfect Fender sound I can think of: clean and spikey, but breaking up when he digs in. He'll meander along and then explode with a run. I like drums and I'm mostly a bass player, and I don't miss either element in his work. Meanwhile, he's a self-described minivan driving dad who works in tech out in SF.Soggy Donkey wrote: ↑Sat Dec 28, 2019 4:35 amJust bought "Odds Against Tomorrow" after hearing/reading all the year-end praise.
