Re: What is the most beautiful Melody you've ever heard?
i'm a stupid nerd so the first things that come to mind are pretty much music from videogames. i don't really go for "beauty" in my non-soundtrack listening.
Jesus bleibet meine Freude (from End of Evangelion)
FFVII Main theme, FF Prelude theme - these are great orchestral versions
Actually, there's a pretty excellent series on BBC Radio 3 at the mo - Sound of Gaming - and while listening to the third episode, i cried three (3) times (i was having a bad day):
-Octopath Traveller main theme
- Chrono Trigger main theme (a game i haven't even really played)
- 'City of Tears' from Hollow Knight
i'm surprised in myself for not posting some Zelda above and before all else. there's this choral version of the Twilight Princess title theme - a game i don't even really like! - but i love this sound very very much
getting [slightly] away from soundtracks, i love the melodies from Anamanaguchi. it's real technical knowledge used for fun and euphoric music

I’ve been meaning to mention that I’ve been playing this video as my classroom “entry music” for the last two weeks.dc wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:36 pmsame record, but i'll vote for Clair de lune. the most perfectly realized composition ever, sayeth i:nanamour wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 5:40 pmClaude Debussy - Estampes L.100-1 Pagodes Chills every time.

I want to sit down when I’m home and add some more but the first tune that comes to mind is Avril 14 by Aphex Twin. Such a simple and beautiful melody.

Warm Canto, by Mal Waldron
Mal Waldron - piano
Eric Dolphy - bass clarinet
Ron Carter - cello
Joe Benjamin - contrabass
Charlie Persip - drums
https://youtu.be/SWafVcbpZag
This is a stunning confluence of Melody, Dolphy's thematic solo and the overall arrangement, to me.

I'm not sure why, but this is strangely reminiscent of the Midnight Cowboy soundtrack to me, which is fantastic by the way.W.L.Weller wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 1:24 pmWarm Canto, by Mal Waldron

I've enjoyed so many of the pieces on here! It's a great idea for a thread.
This song is pure joy to me. I, sincerely, cry tears of joy every time I listen to it....including this time. They were under 25 when they recorded this...and Duane died at 26. Incredible.
*hippie wankering ahead* the jam starts at about 2minutes in:

If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: What is the most beautiful Melody you've ever heard?
i might have picked Watermelon in Easter Hay...or maybe Black Napkins...Zappa certainly has some beautiful stuffLarry Mal wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 7:19 pmBoy, I could do this all day, but here's something that most people won't be thinking of... anyway, here is the Mothers of Invention with The Orange County Lumber Truck. . It ends up a Frank Zappa guitar show, but the beginning parts have this melody that to me is very, very beautiful.
Even better is the way you would have heard it on the record, where there is a great song called "Oh No" that segues into it, which certainly is a dated sounding song but with some excellent work by Ray Collins singing some pretty brutal lines against hippy love utopian-ism.
I'm a big fan of the Mothers of Invention.

Re: What is the most beautiful Melody you've ever heard?
I picked this version of Stella Blue more for Keith Godchaux's piano than Garcia's melodic leads. I don't think Keith got his due with DeadHeads...But he was a a great player...so simple and melodic in his own right.

Damn, diggin’ in the crates. That’s a great one. Dolphy and Booker Little also made some phenomenal melodic stuff (with Waldron!) on their collaborations.W.L.Weller wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2019 1:24 pmWarm Canto, by Mal Waldron
