The Hearse

Post by Tyrannocaster » Mon Apr 01, 2024 3:43 am

People remember Lee Hazlewood for his tunes with Nancy Sinatra and if they're guitar players they may know he produced Duane Eddy, but he also did some surf/car instros, a genre I'm quite partial to. Here is my version of his tune The Hearse. It lets me indulge my passion for Big Daddy Roth and use my Theremin at the same time. :freako:

This is really well produced and the guitars sound great (playing and tone)
"High yella high red high blue she blew
High Ella high Ella Guru"

- CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, "Ella Guru"

I thought this was going to be about The Astronauts song 'The Hearse' which has the greatest rhythm guitar tone ever. This was a pleasant surprise!

It's the same song, originally written by Lee Hazelwood - https://secondhandsongs.com/work/195438/all. Cool version, Tyrannocaster! 8)

Lee H had a really interesting career between his Duane Eddy stuff, his Nancy Sinatra tunes (people remember These Boots Are Made For Walkin', but I really like the psychedelic stuff like Summer Wine and Some Velvet Morning) and the other people he worked with, and then he upped and moved to Sweden, of all places, where he continued working.

Anyway, thanks for listening, and glad you liked it.

This is great.

Everything works.

All the parts fit.

You do some interesting things but they fit and just draw the listener in more.

The foley work is great. I think the song is good enough to not need it but I think you had a vision and followed it.

Nice job.

Thank you. I don't know what you mean by "foley work" here; afaik that term refers to film sound effects added in post production - footsteps, room noise, etc. The only thing I can think of here that might qualify is the Dodge Charger takeoff at the beginning and end, and that's a standard part of car songs from the 60s; tunes by the Super Stocks (Gary Usher) and lord knows how many others...but maybe there's something I'm overlooking.

Anyway, I'm pleased that you liked it.
