1. I've seen a million faces and I rocked them all. (Bon Jovi being as honest, in their own way, as Fugazi ever was).
2. I smell like I sound.* (Duran Duran lyrics are completely opaque and ponderous).

* equivalent to the riddle of the sphinx, on some level. And there is a better answer than just "good" or "terrible."

Built to Spill "car" is amazing. "You'll get the chance to take the world apart and figure out how it works"

Lines are always popping in and out of my memory, but:

"He's got a mind like a sewer and a heart like a fridge,
He stands to be insulted and he pays for the privilege"

and

"The salty lips of the socialite sisters,
With their continental fingers that have
Never seen working blisters
Oh, I know they've got their problems
How I wish I was one of them"

I sure did! It was an absolute dream gig for me; two of my absolute all time favourite bands. The Built to Spill set had me totally mesmerised. I presume you were in attendance?

Just to prove that bad or at least really dated songs can have surprisingly good lyrics (just like good can have bad).

Alphaville - Big in Japan (actually a lot better done byAne Brun)

Winter's cityside

Crystal bits of snowflakes

All around my head and in the wind

I had no illusions

That I'd ever find a glimpse

Of summer's heatwaves in your eyes

You did what you did to me

Now it's history I see

Here's my comeback on the road again

Things will happen while they can

I will wait here for my man tonight

It's easy when you're big in Japan

Aah when you're big in Japan-tonight...

Big in Japan-be-tight...

Big in Japan... ooh the eastern sea's so blue

Big in Japan-alright,

Pay! -- Then I'll sleep by your side

Things are easy when you're big in Japan

Oh when you're big in Japan

Neon on my naked skin, passing silhouettes

Of strange illuminated mannequins

Shall I stay here at the zoo

Or should I go and change my point of view

For other ugly scenes

You did what you did to me

Now it's history I see

Things will happen while they can

I will wait here for my man tonight

It's easy when you're big in Japan

Aah when you're big in Japan-tonight...

Big in Japan-be-tight...

Big in Japan... ooh the eastern sea's so blue

Big in Japan-alright, pay!

Then I'll sleep by your side

Things are easy when you're big in Japan

Actually this reminds me of the Lyrics to Klima - Fluorescent Starsfor some reason, it's a real skin prickler

it's saturday night
and i don't want to go out
i'm staying in bed
watching the stars on my wall
my friends are in a bar
drinking beers and telling jokes
i'm here on my own
counting the stars

so many of them
my eyes are closing
so many of them
one, two, three, four hundred

the noise from the street
is coming to my ears
but they've decided to be deaf tonight
and concentrate on the stars

so many of them
my eyes are closing
so many of them
one, two, three four hundred

Are you loathsome tonight?

"to buy a drink there is so much more reasonable / i think i'll go there when it gets seasonable"

New Order, of course, from "Sooner Than You Think." it's the kind of couplet that could sound strained, were it not so completely charming - 8)

The Mississippi delta was shining
Like a national guitar
I am following the river
Down the highway
Through the cradle of the civil war
I'm going to Graceland

GG Allin
Eat my diarrhea

Just ate a burger at the sleazy joint
Now I gotta take a shit, get to the point
Sittin' on the toilet, my ass is a blast
Runnin' smelly diarrhea outta my ass

No fuckin' paper
Hey baby lick my ass 'til your face turns blue

You're finished rimmin' me and you want some more
Ya say ya don't flush but your out the door
I'm back in the...with a cup
Scoop it outta the toilet 'cause you wanna slurp it up

Eat my diarrhea you're chuggin' it down
You're suckin' my ass and your lips are all brown
Since we've gone back to the hamburger place
I'm gonna stick my ass right on your face

I'm gonna shit in your mouth
I'm gonna shit in your face, your mouth
And I wanna shit on your mother
I'm gonna shit on you and your mother

Diarrhea
I gotta take a shit

Gotta bottle a Ex-Lax, gonna take it
I'm gonna take me a lumpy shit
Gonna throw it at you, I hope I hit you
I hope it splats in your face there too

It's comin' out my ass all drippin' wet
I want you to suck up all of it
Lick my ass and eat it too
Cause diarrhea is good for you

Ya eat it, eat it, eat
Eat it, eat it, eat
Diarrhea

Eat my fuckin' shit

The Pink Fairies did a vocal version of Walk Don't Run

which includes a favourite rhyming couplet

"She took me up to her room
And she hit me with a broom"

Then I had religion,
Then I had a vision,
I could not turn from their revel in derision.
Then I saw the Congo,
Creeping through the black,
Cutting through the jungle like a golden track.
Science Friction burns my fingers
Electricity still lingers
