They are okay...I'm kind of hit or miss with then.  Every now and again I hear a song they do that just knocks me off my feet(like their contribution to the Sprout soundtrack).  I think they are talented and the music is consistently good but for whatever reason it doesn't grab me except in those rare instances.  My wife likes them.  One of her best friends is a close relative of the steel guitar player from Friends of Dean Martinez.  I think through hanging out with that family she got into Howe Gelb and Giant Sand and FoDM and of course Calexico(who grew out of a split from FoDM).

I saw them a couple of years ago - with a mariacchi-section added to the line up - That was really great!
I don't think they've manage to capture that onto their records though - too bad...
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

They're very good, I particularly like Feast of Wire. I don't like Garden Ruin (their latest) much though.

calexico is amazing. seen them live three of four times.

Feast of Wire, Garden Ruin, The Black Light, Convict Pool, all great.

if you're looking for something a little different, check out the first record, Spoke.

I love them !  :-*
"Feast of Wire" is a must have and their live DVD is very good too.

They are very popular in France and have bonded with lots of french singers

The drummer is AM-AZ-ING !  :o :o :o  I think he's the only drummer in the world that I could listen to if he'd make a solo only drums album.. you play 2 chords over what's this guy is playing and you have a great song.

mmm I'll have to dig in my cd very deeply but I have a bootleg live recording of them at the Olympia in Paris.. Soundboard quality... If I find it I'll put it in the Gig upload thread.

Are you referring to Calexico, or Quebexico?  ???

Yes I was reffering to Calexico.
They are friends with lots of french musicians.. I think they had success here before being known in the US (apart from the Tucson area of course)
