Re: early CAN
This thread is cool. As cool as CAN. As cool as can be.

Re: early CAN
Reckon I should chime in...
I played in the Damo Suzuki Network in Atlanta some years back. Damo didn't talk to us much, just said do what we do and he will make it fit, so that's what we did. I had a great time, but I think it was because I was playing with some really communicative improvisors, and Damo was doing his thing on top of it. He did a good job of listening to us and integrating himself, and we honestly didn't have to follow him that much. It developed at times into a Live Evil/Dark Magus kinda vibe, as I remember it, and that's some shit I can get down with.
I hope I get to do it again someday.

^ Woah what an honor!
I always liked Mooney better, but I also thoroughly enjoy their 'later' stuff. Insane band.

Re: early CAN
aye counterext, that's mostly how Malcolm liked to work with us, although we had learned a batch of Can numbers and kind of insisted that we do them! and he was down to hang out and talk about whatever. but he really seems to like to catch a groove and run with it.
Malcolm seems quite taken with Damo, like they really are kindred spirits. he even wanted to cover one of Damo's tracks that our drummer Chris had played on years ago. we didn't have enough rehearsal time (or set time, really) to try it though.

Re: early CAN
Folk might enjoy the track Canjealous by Kelpe (the rest of the record is good too), which is like Can and the BOC getting it on in a hot and slippery night of passion on a vinyl couch.
I find it a bit sad that Can members haven't really done much to get my needle twitching in recent memory, though I really do like Mandy by Bison with Holger Czukay.
and the more swinging version on the bee Mandy (Power Boy Mix)
There's also the Mudd Extended version (which is my favourite) but this is a separate 12' with a dubon the bee.

Re: early CAN
some youtube vids have popped up from our show last week:
Outside My Door - tight structured early number (but crazy dark video) i'm playing my '59 sunburst JM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsRCeFrh-n8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Yoo Doo Right - we sliced and shuffled the arrangement quite liberally and spontaneously (and not completely intentionally!)
check out my Firemist Jazzblaster!! just a few months old but it has seen some great action already
