Thinking of adding a gold pickguard to my 1965 AVRI - do you think it looks ok?

Yes, it looks good. If the non-period correctness doesn't bother you go for it.

I get a little cognitive dissonance with the gold guard [tail end of the 50's] and the bound neck from post '65, but again it's all personal preference.

Yes. It looks good. Things don't have to be "correct" to be awesome. Follow your bliss, damn the torpedoes, etc etc.

Ive grown really fond of black pick up covers on this color/guard combo

Otherwise, though? Sunburst + gold pickguard + black pickup covers == awesome.

Because it's an affront to aesthetics, taste, and the very nature of existence itself. If I owned a guitar company and one of my employees came up with that thing, he'd be given a letter that says "YOU'RE FIRED" just as soon as he came out of surgery to have that ugly bridge removed from his forehead.

I just don't get how the bridge is so offensive. The mastery bridge doesn't look anything like the vintage either. I don't love the look of the newer bridge but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I like the look of this bridge very much
The mastery has the affront to esthetics touch for me instead
