As I said, I have some sub editing experience and I'd be happy to be part of the project, possibly some writing too, but others here have more prose style than me IMO.

So far as pictures go, a minimum quality will need to be prescribed, I know from experience that what looks good on screen doesn't always look good on paper.

Print on demand is a definite, so working out a way to do so in the different areas that OSG members hail from is going to be a challenge - we are quite geographically diverse.

Great idea. But how and who is going to take the next steps? Getting all the rules around pictures and content agreed, collecting all material, getting it printed, distributed, managing the financials etc.? This is not a small project!

I would like to contribute with pictures and ideas.

Great idea but it sounds really ambitious. How could you possibly fit all the information on this website into just one book? It may also be too broad for a coffee table book.

I'd split it up into two projects:

1. The Offset Guitar wiki.

a. Online resource comprising all known technical details related to Fender offsets.

2. The Fender Offset Guitar Book.

a. A History of offset guitar with write ups, pictures of prototypes, photos of early players.
b. A basic description of each guitar model by year or era.
c. An illustrated overview that explains how the offset vibrato unit and various wiring schemes function.
d. An essay on the "dark years" of offset guitars and their rebirth.
e. A feature on modern offsets including non-fender guitars
f. A section devoted to interesting or popular modifications for these guitars with some information on basic set-up.
h. A link to or bonus CD/digital medium of "the Offset Guitar wiki"

Fender invented the offset guitar and they attract the main audience. Of course Fender should be in the title of a coffee table book.

Non-Fender guitars are included in the modern/mods section.

The focus of the book is on Fender offsets.

I think this is a good idea. Reminds me of a book I recently purchased, 'The Blackguard Book' about teles.

You sound like a man with a plan, and I hate to do this, but can you please reconsider the title? (I know it's very very late and the book is being printed as we speak). But phleeeeeeeze.
Otherwise, I might just mention this real case of elitism in my own coffee table book about guitar discrimination.

Am I actually writing a book?

I love the idea! I have a ton of photos of many of the models because I embarrassingly have bought most of them! I would personally wish it to not be so vintage heavy. There is a bazillion vintage guitar books on the market and honestly the new and reissue section is the most active around here. I think it would also be cool if it was OSG dominated by user's guitars around here. There is really no disputing that this forum is the go to place on the web when it comes to these models. Honestly, members here will be the biggest buyers of the book. A section of the most common wiring mods could be a good reference possibly.

Edit: just realized the last post before this was like 4 months ago!! Still think it is a cool idea though!
