What a waste. Why? What was the point of buying it? Why just stop developing it? It's good software.

What is the thinking here? Why did they not sell it?

Its gibson they seem to do a lot of things that make no sense at all with little to no actual thinking involved. All of those users and professionals that rely on that are now SOL. Its not even the first time they have killed a successful software product and this time they just released something for it earlier this month then killed it all with no notice.

Wow. Haven't used cakewalk in years, but that seems somewhat odd from an outside perspective. 3 decades of history down the drain. I have trouble imagining that there would be zero buyers out there for it. Closing it down seems like a waste.

Those assholes. Cakewalk (and the first iteration of Sonar) is what got me into producing/composing to a big extent. Even if I have now used Logic for many years, I was always happy to see that Cakewalk was still making a relevant DAW. Such an unnecessary loss. Gibson, just go away already.

Before switching to Logic Pro, I loved Cakewalk and Sonar. I didn’t know Gibson owned them. Seems a strange pairing, but then I’ve scratched my head at many of Gibson’s decisions — this one included.

They only bought Cakewalk in 2013 or 2014 or so. Not sure why they even bothered.

The second DAW that they've shut down. It's like they are trying to kill digital audio or maybe electronic music or something.

I was thinking that they probably see electronic music as an obstacle to dominating the musician market with guitars.

Fuck them and their shit, overpriced guitars.

See, I'd buy the onion and close it down if I thought it would do any good, but there's no stopping the onslaught of unfunny satirical news sites.

That said, it would still make more sense than what Gibson just did.

Yeah wow I cut my teeth on cakewalk, what was it called pro audio 9.03 back in 1999 geezzz. So after 30 years they are just killing it, niice. >>
I dunno I stopped using it around 2009 and switched to ableton. Still sad to hear that fucking gibson (assholes) are dragging companies down with them, maybe someone will buy it before it sinks?
If OSG has tort me anything...

Oh, yeah! Me too, actually. Going from an 80s Tascam 244 to Pro Audio 9 was a real game changer for my home recording experience. Cakewalk was after that.

It's honestly the one major DAW I never used, since it was PC only.

Still, I would read about it sometimes, it was always very competitive with features and use to anything else. Sometimes a leader in ways, too.

Absolutely! I tried Pro Tools for a minute between Sonar and Logic and hated it. I couldn't believe it didn't have so many of the editing features Sonar had, at a fraction of the cost.

Now I remember, back when no DAW was 64 bit on the Mac platform, I would be jealous of Sonar which was the first to be 64 bit on Windows and maybe anywhere. Next I think Cubase went 64 bit on Windows, but not Mac for a while, then Logic was the first 64 bit DAW on OS X.

Pro Tools is great software, at the HD level, anyway. Avid fucking sucks and I won't buy Pro Tools from them at any price. I could get it for $10 a month or maybe less but I won't even pay them that. Fuck Avid.

I do use Sibelius, but I might move to Steinberg's Dorico soon, although Sibelius is great. But I used that software before Avid acquired them, and Finale is just no competition.

And I'm just fine with my outdated Studio one 2.0. How long will I keep using it? Probably until the computer it's on breathes its last. It does what I need it to do.
