Think there's any chance that the pickguard seen here is original? Seems doubtful, but I guess we've seen Seafoam Green with supposedly original tort, so maybe it's possible.

Zero  chance. That guitar would have had a mint guard or tort but NOT a white guard.....

that thing is sweet as pie
no tort-- ever
I'm glad there are a lot of guitar players pursuing technique as diligently as they possibly can, it leaves this whole other area open to people like me.

I took the original tort guard off my 66 Jag and put a nice new white one. I also have a mint one.
The body is a refin in poo brown stain.
The tort guard is put away.

Might I humbly suggest, if you haven't already, screwing the tort guard to a piece of plywood to keep the celluloid shrinkage in check?

I will do that. Never thought about it, but thanks.
Will it still shrink after 43 years?

It will shrink for all eternity.  That's why so many of the vintage Fender guards crack at the screw holes and jack holes.

Celluloid will gas off and shrink forever.  It's also the reason nitro finishes continue to get thinner as the years go by.

INteresting ######. I have a 64 JM that had a replacement shiity black guard on it since I bought it in 89. I always wondered why there was a space on the upper bout so you could see the body routing edge. It must have shrunk as you say.
I replaced it  with a nice white 3 ply guard and it fits perfectly and looks much better. The old one wasn't original so I don't care about it, but the Jag one is original so I will take your advice with it.
Thanks for the tip.
