That looks sexy.  I wonder how it sounds?  As anyone played one?

I had a sort of Eastwood rip off. It sucked.  :P  Never touched an original.

How did it suck?  I'd like to know, as I have considered getting the Eastwood copies in the past.

I've also had bad experience with the Eastwoods.  Right about the time that I was getting really into vintage Valco guitars (Supro, Airline, National, Oahu) was about when Eastwood got the rights to some of the names and started selling guitars.  I was pretty excited, but when I finally got my hands on one, it was a real letdown.  The binding was popping off of one the fretboards, the hardware is all really low grade, the switch plates are thin aluminum, and that's even if you excuse the modernizations they made to the classic designs.  I feel like they really had a chance to do it right, but just thoroughly missed the boat.

I've never played a Supro, but I do own a '63 Airline Rocketship.  It's a cool little guitar, with a chunky neck (these don't have truss rods), and a great shortscale snappy feel to it (I've never had it plugged in because I still haven't got pickups for it).

My first from-scratch build was based off of photos of Val-Trols like the one above:
