All instruments that aren't guitars (or bass guitars).

beatbox software

Post by surfdivision » Sun Feb 24, 2013 7:16 am

Alright, I don't know jack shit about drumming, I'm hopeless. However I have plenty of sketches and demoes (and I play both bass and guitar) so I'd like to be able to create some sort of rythm so they could actually resemble real songs... I'm talking about fairly simple, repetitive patterns like HTRK / Tropic of Cancer kind of thing. And it's a bonus if it isn't too complicated. So does anyone know of some free (or at least not so expensive) beatbox software I could use?

hey,
have an eye on the free Hydrogen Software... it's a Drum Machine Software and should do what you want... every DAW programm like, Ableton, Cubase, Reaper,... will do the thing too (but there expensive, except Reaper)
hope this helps you,
peace

I would just buy a cheap drum machine and learn how to use it. The Alesis SR-16 is my favorite- it's relatively simple to use and super powerful.

Edit:

Unless you have a mac with garageband, which is probably the best inexpensive/free sequencing software out there.

Yup. I did this with a Casio and a Dr. Rhythm overdriving a cassette 4-track.

Or, you could just beatbox.

The one in the basic Reason (redrum) is good - it uses an X0X interface but you can send the patterns to a part/track and edit in the piano roll if you like.

This! I use Hydrogen quite a bit for my own recording and have been mostly happy with it. You can download drum samples if you are unhappy with the "stock" ones, it's very user-friendly and sounds good to me in general.

My only real complaint about it (seeing as how it's free and everything) is that the tracks it exports are stereo. That means that the exported tracks are basically already panned to the left or right. If you are unhappy with it and, say, want to have the hi hat on the right and not on the left, you'll have to export the stereo track to mono first before you can pan them. You'll need an additional program to do that, for example SoX… but that's no problem

Anyway, it can totally do simple demos and more. I highly recommend it, especially for getting started :)

EZDrummer is pretty much designed for you, it's acoustic samples though and not a drum machine.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.
