I have a Naim pre, Naim amp, Rega planar and Rega Ela speakers.... my Naim is crapping out (need a recap), so i bought an amp from Aliexpress. If it's close to sounding like my 40 year old Naim, then i'll be happy.

Long shot, but does anyone have any opinions/firsthand experience with the Nelson Pass Amp Camp designs? There are two for sale locally.

I was able to hear a First Watt build at a DIY meet a few years ago and thought it was pretty sweet.
None, but I think - from what I've read - that NP is a stand-up guy so his generously-shared designs are probably designed with built-in love.

So, if strangers have assembled these, you'd obviously have to be confident they are to the correct design-specs and safe, above all.
Let us know!
Oh, totally. It’s 100% nerd shit.

Looking into it more it seems people like them best as monoblocks, which I don’t have money or space for.

Current plan is to get some mono TPA3116 boards, and if I like them throw them in some pedal enclosures.

There are enough odds and ends at work (power supplies, cables) to cobble together a test setup.

I have a decent set up that sounds great to my ears, and crucially, is probably better than my living room and ears can make use of.

Dual CS 505-1 with a NAD 92 cartridge,* a NAD 3130,** and a pair of Mordaunt Short Pageant II speakers. I recently got a pair of Leak Sandwiches which are okay on their own, but sound brilliant with the MSs. The fill out the bass in a nice, bloomy way. I think the Leaks are getting better, I rotated the woofers and I think they're benefiting from regular exercise.

* - Made by ADC for NAD. It's basically a XLM mkiii from what I can tell
** - Basically a 3020, but beefed up and with more features that never get used.

In other hifi news, I'm trying to put together a setup for a colleague. She recently tried to give away all her old vinyl as she no longer has a system. I have my old Rotel amp and my first ever turntable gathering dust. So I found a pair of Wharfedale Melton speakers on Gumtree and bought those untested, but the foam is hardened and cracked, so they're dud. I'm going to have a go at refoaming them and see if I can get her sorted out.
I refoamed both 10” and both 18” in my 4345s. Can offer tips and advice if you need it, when you need it—just tag me wherever you’re posting about it!

I’ve got a classic Naim setup gathering dust - an early 12S preamp and a NAP 160 amp. Needs fixed up, I’ll do it when I get a minute!

Tommy.

I have a Denon AVR S760H receiver and Polk RTi10 mains and center and their basic 10" sub. It's nothing super-fancy, but it's great for music and also for movies in my mid-sized living room.

Thanks for that. The tricky bit right now is getting surrounds that are the exact right size. There was an ebay seller selling from China who had a selection of different sizes, but was sold out of the ones I need. This was the only place I could find them. I'll check again in a week or two, and hopefully they'll be available.

I'm looking forward to it. It's kinda a shot to nothing. The speakers themselves were £20. If it all goes well, I should have restored a decent piece of old equipment. If it doesn't go well, I'll have learned something.

There used to be an eBay seller named Rick Cobb that had a lot of surrounds… the user name was something like looneytunes

A quick question for people more knowledgeable than I:
I've had my Rega RP1 for a long time (10 years?) and I've noticed recently that there is a slight crackle/pop just on the right speaker regardless of what record I'm listening to. Is this a sign the stylus/cartridge needs replacing?
Thanks for any help

Switch the RCA connectors around and see if the problem moves to the other channel.

If so then the issue is somewhere with the turntable. If not then it’s downstream of the turntable.

Might be the tracking. I’ve had some issues with my P2 on the right channel for the 1st & 2nd tracks on each side since changing the cartridge. I keep meaning to get a proper set to line it up, but ya know…

I've been tinkering with the speakers a bit:
I updated the crossovers with new capacitors, converting it to the Type E network:
Image

made new backs out of 3/4" MDF to stiffen it and reduce resonance, added new speaker terminals and 4" ports

Image

I also added new woofers, Eminence Delta Pro 12A's, which have enormous magnets, yet maintain the sensitivity of the original speaker

Image

I rearranged my living room yesterday, to better optimize the listening field.

i have to say, as these Delta Pro woofers break in, they’re sounding better and better, the subwoofer is barely needed, although one could make an argument that it’s not needed at all.

First thing that springs to mind is the swapping sides, but it might well be a dirty volume control on your amp.

If so, a spray into the volume pot with electrical contact-cleaner (not WD40/CRC!) and a wiggle back and forth should fix that. If that is not your skill-set, it's a very simple job for a tech.
Hope that helps.

Nice space!

It's not as big as it looks in the photo, we live in an urban flat that's only 1800-2k sf, but I'm doing my best to make it work. Rearranging the furniture really helped the listening area; I wish I could get a retractable screen for the projector, so we wouldn't have such a huge space of bare wall, but the ones that I can find are all smaller than what's projected.
