OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
Could this be an "official" thread?
Yeah, it's a pretty pompous title to give yourself, but who on here likes to consider themselves multi-instrumentalists?
I'm a guitarist first, but lately I've almost given up trying to learn new stuff on guitar in favour of learning piano. I think it's far far more rewarding to be decent at two instruments than it is to be really good at one. Eventually, I'd like to be a sort of Steven Drozd or Jonny Greenwood type of guy, who isn't necessarily known as a 'guitarist'. I play drums too, and I absolutely love drumming. I guess the thing I REALLY want to do with music is compose, be it for bands, computers, ensembles, or maybe orchestras? Who knows. I don't just want to play one instrument.
I know there are loads of people on here like me, let's represent

There is no problem so bad that you can't make it worse.

Count me in. I've been a drummer much longer than I've been a guitar player.

Re: OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
I started on the drums when I was 11 (after some piano lessons when I was younger) and I'd still consider that my main instrument, I make a living drumming in my band and giving drum lessons on the side. I do however also play lots of guitar and have since high school, and know enough on bass to b.s. it. I too record my own material where I play every instrument on it and sing, so I suppose I'm qualified as well.

I played Trombone all through junior high and high school. First chair in high school Jazz Band.
I also play a bit of drums, and can play some chords on a piano...but those don't really count.

I play all the instruments on my recordings - I'm far from beeing a virtuose (?), but I get along with keys and non-guitar stringed instruments. I think programming is an art too....
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Can I hire you?RumorsOFsurF wrote: I played Trombone all through junior high and high school. First chair in high school Jazz Band.
I love to arrange brass/woodwind - but I can't get a single tone out of such an instrument, so I'm stuck with my crappy Reason samples....

Re: OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
haha, this could easily become some sort of brag sheet.
i started on piano when i was 8, took lessons for quite a while, picked up the trombone in 5th grade. some where in highschool i started picking up the guitar to just bang around on, but i really stuck tothe piano as far as scholastically.
following highschool i was a jazz performance major for several years focusing on percussion (piano, tuned percussion, drums, auxilliary etc.) also playing some trombone
in collage also getting the "fundamentals" in a bunch of standard band instruments (woodwins, brass) but i never gained any real understanding of those instruments. i can pick them up and make sounds with them, but nothing proficcient at all.
than after collage working on electronic keyboard instruments (where they act similar to a piano, but i swear it is a different discipline)
so yeah, i'd say i have a rounded instrumental training. but as far as comprehension and practical ability, i can play the guitar, drums and piano.

Re: OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
I can play a couple (literally a couple) of tunes on the piano, I can play one rythm on the drums (yes, first the bass drum, then the snare ,then the bassdrum twice and then the snare once again. All that and the hi-hat at the same time! 8) ). I can do some very basic bass stuff, hold maracas and a triangle (basically all instruments like that), I can hit the bongo's and congo's and in my fantasies I'm a great lead-singer too. :-[
So: no.
So: no.

Guitars aside, I'm a cellist and not especially great pianist. My only regret is not being able to drum.

Re: OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
I started playing drums and guitar when I was 7. My brother got a kit, I got a guitar. Then we eventually switched somewhere. I started taking guitar seriously when I was like 12-ish. So I really think I'm a much better drummer than guitarist.
I also dabble in Piano and Bass.

I'm a decent guitarist, mediocre pianist and horrible cellist. Thinking about picking up the viola.

Re: OSG Multi-Instrumentalists thread
Hello, Everyone
Glad to see other instruments can bring joy to the OSG guitar community.
I started on the song flute back in grade school then
started guitar in my late teens, got curious about the piano/keyboards in my late 20's,
my passion now is butchering jazz drumming.
