Re: Mellotron
I have the GForce M-Tron Pro which I would use on everything if I thought I could get away with it!
I have only seen a real Mellotron used live once, which was at the Big Star Third concert at the Barbican, London, earlier this year.

Re: Mellotron
I love M-Tron Pro, and I really do try to use it on everything I record, lol.
I think it's main shortcoming is in that it doesn't allow that spitting that you get on the real thing when you press a key hard.

I have it sampled, and in a mix it sounds rely convincing.

Re: Mellotron
I didn't read every page, so forgive me if this is a repeat. But Artifake Labs Redtron is free and really pretty good.

I totally agree - I've been using the M400 model and it sounds superb!stig wrote:I didn't read every page, so forgive me if this is a repeat. But Artifake Labs Redtron is free and really pretty good.

Stig, thanks for that link, haven't downloaded it yet but it appears to be excellent.stig wrote:I didn't read every page, so forgive me if this is a repeat. But Artifake Labs Redtron is free and really pretty good.

Did find a free VST Mellotron some time back which I've used but its very limited in what it does. However the Redtron
looks really comprehensive. Thanks.
Way back in the late 60's I was fortunate enough to be able to play a couple of Mellotrons, one had two keyboards side by side so you could play a backing band thing on one and a top line on the other. It was totally bonkers. Used to get so irritated when the tapes ran out.....and all that clunking and wurring. But back then it was an amazing piece of technology. How things have changed.

Re: Mellotron
You're welcome! I'm a big fan of the free Mellotron emulators out there. In fact, just used a couple of them extensively on a cover of The Monkees' The Porpoise Song.NickDagger wrote:All downloaded and very impressed.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Re: Mellotron
Yeah, I thought I'd never get the chance, but after 10 years of looking I found an old beast that needed a little TLC. Waiting for new tapes and some spares so I can give it a little overhaul. Hope its worth the while.
