New Synth Day! Arp Solina Mk I
I just got back from tour with some money to burn... haha.
Seriously though, this popped up on craigslist and it was just too good (and priced cheap) to pass up. It's a MK I and it's in beautiful shape. It sounds as good as I hoped!

That looks like it's been locked up somewhere since it was born. Nice score.

What did you play first? The Cure, surely.

Nice!
Cool Siel hanging up top there too-- those are pretty much the same thing as the Sequential Circuits PRELUDE, right?
I'm sure you can push the goth-o-meter into the red (or rather, black!) with that setup enjoy!

yep! I have the Prelude as well. I love that synth so I wanted a backup and to be able to have one at home and one at my rehearsal studio.
The Siel synths (Orchestra 1 & 2, OR400, Arp Quartet, Prelude) are going up in price but luckily I found them cheap ($300 for the OR400, $450 for the Prelude).
I never thought I'd find a Solina in this condition for $700 in L.A.!! It was obviously meant to be
The Solina sounds amazing. It's so rich and full. It blends well with electric guitar in recordings. I'm in LOVE.

String synths do that one thing, but that one sound is so cool! And at a good price. J E A L O U S

Yes but the Solina blows them all away. It's amazing how much fuller it is in sound than everything else I've had. I think it actually has a few sounds in it. They're all related but there's 3-4 tones that I find useful.redchapterjubilee wrote:String synths do that one thing, but that one sound is so cool! And at a good price. J E A L O U S

I've had a Solina MkI for about 20 years, I never get tired of it.. the thing is for a limited sound palette it's surprising how much you can do with it. And it's impossible to emulate..plug ins and digital emulations of string machines sound like shit to me...because every key sounds different and the different tones you get with notes interplaying off each other varies it so much..bit like a piano.
I've owned most of the 'best' string synths and the Solina Mk1 rules for sure.

Philip, have you tried the Elkorus unit? I'd love to try one with one of my Siels to see or even a Juno-type synth.
