Post padding

Just a short notice to all new members on the topic of post padding (i.e. posting 50 essentially useless posts just to get into the guitar shop): It doesn't work. Since access to the guitar shop is granted manually these days, we will catch anyone trying to +1 cool guitar x 50 their way into the guitar shop. So please relax, take your time to get to know the forum, and let people get to know you, so that once you do get access to the guitar shop, people might actually trust you enough to do business with you.

never really understood this rule, surely the more people buying and selling in the for sale section the better for everyone.

It's easier to trust someone who's been legitimately active on the board, rather than someone who just goes "Yeah, cool."

It's a piece of mind thing.

The Aussie Gear Heads forum requires 50 posts AND one month's membership. Perhaps that would curb the rush to get to 50 posts.

agreed, I trust soo many of the guys on here who I've been in contact with for a long time. I would just buy off someone new who I didn't know.

That thread is ridiculous +10. Seems to be only a handful of people using that thread. Most of them were already at 50, however it's still ridiculous.

I kinda like it. It's just glaringly obvious if you use it to post-pad though.

Hey, I started that thread! :-/

There's only a handful of us playing, most of the time...it's fun.

To be honest, I can't really get those members who post pad in rush to get to the for sale section. Do they really think that the for sale forum is filled with nothing but great deals? Or that people here would rush to buy their stuff?

On the other hand, I hate to see that some (older) members seem to be members just for the for sale section and nothing else. I mean, they are straight, fair and square, but stopped contributing here entirely and just login when they have to sell something. Rant over :)

P.S. I have never used the For Sale section, and even refrain from visiting it too often, because it only gives me a massive headache - usually some guitar or piece of gear (which is not the greatest deal of the century in a "58 all original Jazzmaster for $ 500" way), but rather something that is unobtanium on this side of the pond, or something that shipping would turn in an entirely unfavourable deal for me.

for me to actually use the sale section, would imply that i have an abundance of awesome stuff to get rid, or a job that actually pays me enough money to feed my kid, pay my mortgage, pay bills, then have an extra pile of money to buy other peoples' cool, but unnecessary items. i just like the atmosphere. i promise not to pad for numbers, but if i see a cool guitar, am i allowed to genuinely let someone know i like their guitar without asking what the trem cavity depth is or what kind of string tree lubricant they use?
