Awesome of you find some old pictures of someone playing your vintage guitar. I believe I found a picture of the original owner of my 65 JM.

Nice VI...and good looking couple! I feel like because Jet Harris (The Shadows) was a visible, early player of these, they took hold in England more so than the US...or at least more known players used them...Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Robert Smith. I even saw an old pic of a guy in a British folk group using one. Besides maybe Rick Danko (The Band), I can't think of any high profile players on this side that used them.

The Tielman Bros. were tearing up Europe and spreading offset love throughout the late '50s and early '60s, too.

Yes, Tielman Bros. videos are great...such energy and AMAZING gear to look at.

The original owner bought it new here in Norway. I called him once to check if he still had the original hard case. He told me it didnt come with a hard case. Just a soft case wich is long gone. This pic is of a norwegian band called the sunbeams, a shadows-like band with a saxophone playing the melody. They only played for a year or so before they split up, but still managed to sell over 200.000 records. They played on a swedish tv show once in 1963, with a certain band from Liverpool... and the story is that Paul Mccartney tried this VI backstage and liked it very much.

After the sunbeams split up this VI had several owners in area and in the late 70's it ended up with my father, and I got it from him when he passed away 15 years back. When he got it, the tremolo arm was missing. However at a concert in the 80's he bumped into a previous owner and while talking about this instrument the guy said he might have the trem arm somewhere. A few weeks later the tremolo arm came in the mail.

I never asked my dad about the tuners as I just thought they where original. Hope I can find the original tuners, or some other original Bass VI tuners for it some day. It deserves a set of proper tuners

Thanks, yes. Its a fantastic JM. 1960 slab. Not a museum thing but a really nice player.

Hi no...they are definitely not original.

Forgetting whether of not they are made by kluson...(which I'm 90% sure they are not)...they are 100% not Fender VI tuners, they are copies of Fender guitars ones...Fender Bass VI tuners have a different post, the post is straight without a tapered 'waist' like you see on Fender guitars. The slot on VI specific ones are also cut wider to accept bass strings better... the reason they have the straight waist rather than the tapered waist is to strengthen the post for bass strings and also decrease the bend radius applied to the strings.

Do you know wich company that made the original Bass VI tuners?
