Re: Thread to predict currently cheap stuff that’ll skyrocket in value eventually
Forgot about Omar, yeah! I feel like by the time TMV started he was using other stuff? But yeah I definitely remember him using a Super Sonic in ATDI, but even then like ~4 years ago Vistas were still pretty cheap.
Nick Rinehart is from Tera Melos and has a popular YouTube channel about guitar pedals. I think he plays in Goblin Cock, too.

One important thing (if I’m remembering correctly) is that those SuperSonics were MIJ. Their quality was pretty good which justifies their price hike in my mind.BoringPostcards wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 4:43 pmOmar Rodriguez-Lopez of At the Drive In/The Mars Volta used a Super Sonic for a really long time before he started using Ibanez guitars.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 11:13 amSpeaking of, those original Vista Super Sonics being listed for $1,000 - $1,500 or anything more than, like, $500 is a disgrace to the Christian world
The only person of any kind of higher stature I’ve ever seen playing one is Nick Rinehart and he’s not exactly at Kurt Cobains popularity level.
Mars Volta were hugely influential a decade ago, when he was using them. At least amongst the musicians in my region. They were getting overplayed for a while by everyone I knew.
No idea who Nick Rinehart is, although I probably heard of his band from a thread here.

Yeah, they're MIJ, but it took years for "online guitar culture" to recognize that. They were viewed as inferior Squiers by the majority of people who had never played them.
Similarly, I bet the Chinese CV Squiers will soar in price. They were incredibly well-made. I had two strats from that line, which I got stupidly cheap (like $200USD). I've just never bonded with strats, so I eventually moved them on, but I bet they'll be going for $1000 in 10 years.

Tera Melos are fantastic. I am really bad at remembering names, and feel half dumb now, as I have had their music in my collection for years.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Sat Oct 10, 2020 5:05 pmForgot about Omar, yeah! I don't watch much YouTube gear channels, but I will check his out, as the guitar style is not the usual YouTuber blues wankery.

A missed opportunity of mine is not picking up an epiphone special edition explorer when MF was closing them out. I think it was 300 and they routinely sell for 800 on reverb.
The and gate goes:
Likely epiphone discontinuation + non-continuous gibson production = $$$
So, any explorer or flying V, set neck LP or SG specials, SGs with vibrola, firebirds etc.
The ROI would be small in absolute terms, but these things appreciate to their sale price almost instantly and the second epiphone stop them again, blamo.
Also true of reissued epiphone only models. Rivieras, sorrentos, Broadways, etc.

If it wasn't for disappointment, I wouldn't have any appointments.

Hahaha, I know the room you mean man. Was back in a couple of times earlier this year and it’s literally not changed.

I bought a MIK Epiphone Flying V for $100 in 2009 and flipped it for $250, I recently looked at prices and was shocked.seenoevil II wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 7:48 amA missed opportunity of mine is not picking up an epiphone special edition explorer when MF was closing them out. I feel like the DOD Rubberneck had a good chance of going up in price.

I owned an original series sea foam green Mark Hoppus Signature Bass. I sold it a few years later for something like $450. I recently looked them up again and they are quite a bit more expensive now.

Ahhh to have a time machine. I remember in the 70s when old Teles were stacked three deep in the stores on 48th St, NYC.
The cases were worth more than the guitars, same with Mosrites. And then there was the white Jaguar with matching headstock and L series s/n that I sold for $400 in the 80s.
