Oh man, that is a tough decision, but the fun is, it's your choice to make there are so many nice possibilities..

Yes, it is very individual taste, of course. I justed wanted to hear some opinions. (Original restauration or any color I like...)

I asked at a guitar shop here. The girl from the store told me to try it with graffiti spray. It is nitro.
I found this here below. They have a looooot of funny colors. I like the "Kiwi hell" or "Kiwi" a lot. Even the "MAD C Psycho Pink" is one of my top faves. My girlfriend said the contrast to the pickguard with the pscho pink would be better than with Kiwi.

It is the brand i have use for m'y black jazzmaster ,good paint but i don t think it is nitrocellulose ,maybe derivated but thé smell is not nitro for me

there´s a product site for the Molotow spray. The color chart is amazing! The more I look the more I want to have 20 or more Jazzmaster/Jaguar projects
They say it is a Nitro / Alkyd lacquer.
Ludo, what kind of cap have you used for spraying the guitar body please?

Thé cap delivered with ,it spray to much larger but the paint when dry was very easy to sand and polish,but difficult to have a nice coat direct from the can
take a little time to cure i let it dry 3 weeks ,depend of thickness for sure of the layer
as i said dpn t smell like nitro ,work outdoor it is very aggresive smell and wear a respirator mask

As far as I remember, alkyd is not compatible with (nitro)cellulose.
Usually, I use acrylic car paint and a nitrocellulose clear coat. Sometimes (nitro)cellulose colour coat when I want to stick to Fender tints.

The first one is my favourite for vintage tint accuracy, but they are slow.
The second one is fast, and has some tints you won't find by Rothko (ie faded sonic blue)
I don't use the third anymore, but was ok for modern tints and can supply about any RAL tint.

So, what´s up with my Jazzmaster project?
I nearly stripped down the bad finish. In the routing areas there is sunburst?
What is about the letters there? Anyone knows something about?
Next step is more filing the body and filling the wood.

defo looks like it was sunburst. what i'd say is if it's going to be a player guitar for you, paint it something that seems like a fender colour but with a small change.

Hi, yes, it will be a player definitely, not a vintage correct restauration.
It will be beaten on stages as soon as possible.
I bought a spray already. It will be finished in "kiwi hell". (this maybe sounds funny for english speaking people. In Germany the word "hell" means something like "light", "bright".

Alright, I am working on the headstock.

Here, this is the basic... :

The keys are not complete. I will use 6 complete new ones.










So, I sawed away a bit more from the headstock to get a plane basic for a substitute wood part.

Here I compared it with the headstock of my ´63 Jazzmaster:


I made a new headstock part and glued it to the basic.
On the basic headstock someone put a nail into the headstock... I pulled it out, now there´s a hole in the wood... but this not a problem.

The new part is a bit thicker than the original. So this the next step, get everything in good shape

Excuse the question, but is that maple you've added to the headstock? Grain looks a bit weird...

+ FWIW if this was mine I'd veneer the rear and face. It would hide the join and add a bit of stability
