The oversprayed red finish looks very old and the story makes sense. Obviously the black showing through and tortoise guard tell the story of a factory sunburst underneath.
My question is about the matching headstock. It seems like a lot of extra work to also mask & paint the headstock and apply a decal.

Why do so many get the neck stamp wrong, it's not 1st May 1962, it's 1, as in model code for Jaguar, May, 1962, is that really so hard? I mean they do al other sorts of research on these guitars.

Its hard enough proving convincingly a Strat has a Selmer red refinish - the same guitar Hank actually played - let alone a Jaguar with a matching headstock.

this thread comes up as the goto for Selmer refins, so I thought I'd post this video of a Selmer refin Jazzmaster, from around 1964, here.
This band, the Hullabaloos, were from my home town, Hull. Yes, they were awful, although they enjoyed brief fame in the US as part of the British Invasion. In a roundabout way they helped Daivd Bowie get his sound together. They were around a fiar time and went thru some good musicians. John Cambridge, who joined them later, was the first drummer in the Spiders from Mars; their later guitarist, Mick Wayne, played guitar in Space Oddity, and his band Junior's Eyes, with Cambridge, backed him for a crucial tour. They did a brilliant version of Let Me Sleep Beside You Together. Then, famously, John Cambridge teamed Bowie up with Mick Ronson.
I think I've seen this Precision bass in the flesh; it's a classic Selmer Fiesta Red refin, and according to people around on the scene at the time, the Precision and the Jazzmaster were both Selmer refins.
