I've wanted one of these since the first time I saw one back in 65, so I decided to build one. Not sure how quickly it will progress, but here goes.






FYI, I also wanted a Bass VI forever, but the $$ on one of those was prohibitive, so I built one. A couple of years later, all of a sudden, the big boys were making them again, and quite affordable. So who knows, maybe after I finish this one, they'll start making XII's again.

Hey Mef, I made a topic with pictures, I didn't want to hijack your topic! It's under the 'new/reissue forum'

Update, Novak pickups ordered as well as control plate, bridge and bridge surround plate, tuners, pick guard blank, and rotary switch. I slotted and radiused the fingerboard, glued it the neck, and have done some preliminary neck shaping. I have some body shaping left as you can see by the lines, then routing for the pickups and controls as well as the neck pocket.

I'm thinking a vintage 3 color sunburst with a red tortoise pick guard. I've done a 2 color burst before, but we'll see if I can pull it off.

I realize you haven't applied contouring yet, but is the upper horn a bit too pointy?

Spectacular work either way. This is going to be a kickass instrument.

Fixed the pointy upper horn and did the front and rear contour, and round overs.....

What bit did you use for the roundovers?
