Hey guys,

as I´m still hunting for a pre cbs Jazzmaster and without having ever owned one (played - yes, but not owned) I´m here to make use of your endless knowledge. Very pleased with this all around service, really good people around! I´m not that active but reading for many years.

Anyway, I found a reasonably priced one (not so easy these days in Europe... REALLY expensive examples to befound) at Denmark Street UK:

Very clean example of a ´65, unbound and dots. I already asked for some more pics, neck date and shape, frets, pots, etc. I found the finish really clean - but it looks like it´s original and not a refin.

The plastics though: switch tip is heavily yellow, vol/tone knobs and pickup covers not so much. Is that common or may they´ve been replaced?

As usual: extremly grateful for your input. All around it´s looking like a good example, a fair price. Any "negative experience" with Denmark Street known?

I know a few people on Denmark Street quite well, Hanks and Macari's are two of the most established and have a good rep. When my Epiphone Caballero got damaged by a falling angel (really) Hanks repaired the damage and did a really good job. I personally would trust them more than any Reverb seller etc as they've been around for decades.

Guitar looks promising to me. Nice case, too. Can't tell about the finish from the photos but sunburst guitars do tend to be more trustworthy than custom colours .

Thanks so much for your opinion, it´s helpful. I wouldn´t have doubted the shop in the first place, just wanted to double check. Seems like an excellent shop!

is it gone now? Do you still have pics that you can post? I think I clicked on it this morning and it seemed to me like it was almost too clean to be original.

Yes, it´s already sold - they do have another one from ´65, I´m awaiting some information.

The sold one looked like this:

it looked a bit too shiny, almost like oversprayed. Especially the back of the neck (that's what I noticed yesterday morning). But now it's hard to tell from the small pics.

Anyway, as it´s already sold I have to look elsewhere. Still wondering if the difference in fading of the plastics (switch tip vs covers) is "usual".

Yes, the switch tip is a different, slightly more brittle plastic and classically seems to yellow significantly more than the pickup covers and volume knobs

Hanks and 'Denmark Street Guitars' are associated with Music Ground, I wouldn't give them my money as they are well known for...well, you name it, they've done it. Including doing time for handling stolen goods a few years ago.

Thanks for that. Good advice and I stand corrected. My repair experience with Hank's comes from pre 2006 when it appears they changed hands, so consider my recommendation withdrawn. It is correct that Music Ground were notorious.

I can do some asking around with a friend but I won't see him for a few weeks, but in the meantime I do know Macari's are nice, honest people, under the same family ownership for half a century or so.

The giveaway is if you go into 'Hanks', walk up to the top floor, it's the exact same stock music ground had 10-15 years ago, that was overpriced then and is still overpriced now!
