Our very own Jazzprod (Daniel) makes some killer stuff under the name Deep Seat Guitars out of Sweden.

He also has a Marauder II in his products list. This one's mental!!...

Sitar my ass! He's making the marauder sound kinda like a chinese sanxian or maybe a japanese shamisen, something like that. Pretty neat, if you ask me.

You know what I like about those two videos you posted? There's no fucking two handed tapping.

that "shamisen" out of phase sound is super cool, reminds me I 've got to add out of phase switch to my "Van Halenized" Mustang.

are we meant to know who this eric johnson is? seriously, ive never heard of him.
Assuming this isn't sarcastic, why waste time with ignorance? Learn. And yes, his music is guitar wank 101. "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Find out who he is, and then avoid it.

Yep, doesn't take long to google and/or youtube him, listen to Cliffs of Dover, and then rest easy knowing that you've listened to the only song he's ever written that's worth listening to.

Amazing technique, amazing tone, unlistenable wankery 99.9% of the time.

He's the type of player whose chops I will always respect, but whose music I will always avoid. He gets a lot of gear endorsements because he's basically a Blooze Dad's wet dream. Killer chops, killer gear, killer tone, was biggest in the 80's when they were kids, and everything he plays sounds like someone doing a gear review or trying to impress bystanders in a Guitar Centre. You know, the Blooze Dad dream.

Fender's Joe Bonamassa.

And I feel the same way: a really talented guy... who focuses his talents on music that I don't care for, but as I always like to say, if he's happy and he's making other people happy more power to him.

+1

I can't stand his music, but I actually liked his 90s guitar instruction VHS tapes - contained some cool stuff which I really enjoyed practicing.

Oh, totally. Joy is in short enough supply that I won't begrudge anyone their taste in music.

But he totally is Fender's Joe Bonamassa 8)

Christ almighty!! I just Googled him (watched 30 seconds of Stratagem).

Truly awful stuff, regardless of technique.

Pretty much. There's this utterly soulless, pre-set sounding backing track to it too, making me think it was all just programmed on a laptop.

Yeesh!

First time I've seen a real one in action. Looks like the slanted-fret Marauder II that has been featured in a number of books (look at the fret closest to the pickguard).

Thanks to a bunch of OSG guys, especially Paul Rhoney, Strider13, and Ret Samzzaj, I was able to get this clone put together a few years ago. All the rocker-switches work as they are supposed to (and it does not sound like a Sitar):

How does he get it to sound like that if yours is a replica and sounds nothing like that, I wonder?

It's just a very clean and thin sound. Fender Amp, out of phase switching and maybe the volume rolled off a bit. You could possibly do it with a bridge pickup only. The trick here is the playing technique with the wide and very characteristic pitch bends and the scale he uses. Sitars have this typical buzz from the Jawari bridge but there's nothing of this in the sound in the video.

+1 on the scales and bends he's playing, strumming near the neck and tone rolled off on the out of phase position will also help.
