Hello everybody,has been a long time since my lasts posts here.So I am currently based in Berlin and have been searching local ebay in Germany when i came across this vintage mustang https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anz ... 98-74-7991
(ad is in German).At the moment I am at the process of asking more pictures from the seller,in particular pot codes,neck pocket,pics from the body before it was refinished and more detailed pics of everything.I know the ones provided are not the best but i would like to hear some opinions..will post more when i receive..

Shame about the pickguard. You're going to have to price in the cost of an original or Spitfire.

The main issue is whether the neck is refinished too, I guess? It looks as if it could be original. Obviously I would want to look closely at the pickups too to check they're original, underneath the repro covers.

Yeah seller says body is refinished and there are non original pickup covers,switches and pickguard.

Mostly, as you mentioned, am concerned about the back of the neck,pots, pickups and body.Refinish from these pics seems ok

Hm,... not easy... Yes, looks like new.
But the price is not so bad for a ´66 Mustang.
The pickups (what I can see) look good.
When the pickups are original and the neck, you have important components.

If I would be interested in a white vintage Mustang, I would pay a bit more for a complete original 1966 one. Or 1965.
What should be the price for a vintage one? In good condition with playing marks maybe? Maybe original case?
About 1600 US dollars? Or more? I am not sure.

Still waiting for additional pics from seller..Seems to be missing the vibrato arm,case looks like a new one.This is my first vintage instrument so i do not mind the refinish as long as neck and pickups are original,mostly looking for a player than a collectors item..

Check also if there is the little screw in the bar which fixes the trem arm.

Was the back of the neck refinished too? It looks unusually glossy

Have no idea since I am still waiting for seller's reply.Looks like it is,in that case will not proceed into buying, but lets see..

The Mustang is still for sale. So it is not the most sought after guitar. (but I like Mustangs!)
Still think that the price is not bad for a mid 60´s Fender!
@muffonrat: Do you know about Mustangs? They never sound as thick and don´t bite as nice as Jaguars.
Mustangs are mostly thinner in sound and less in volume.
Just my experiences. For me, I love Mustangs, I love the small bodies, simply the overall look!
Mustangs are so easy and nice to play!!! I have two (CIJ) Mustangs. Both had problems with the tremolo unit (detuning!)
The old tremolo units have no issues (if the guitars have a good setup)! So if buying a Mustang, I would definitely get an old one.
...but the new one have soooo nice colors!!!! Aaaaahhhhh!!!!!

After a nice set up,12s and a new nut plays like a dream,no detunning after the most heavy trem use.
I have played my friends japanese mg65 reissue in dakota red and was quite impressed, top quality guitar!

I ordered a vintage Mustang trem unit yet for one of my Japanese Mustangs.
@muffonrat: What kind of music do you play / prefer? Especially with the Mustang?

After setting up never had a problem with the mustang vibrato unit,what problem are you talking about?
Mostly play indy/shoegaze stuff so i need to have a nice working vibrato unit to all of my guitars.I like the mustang for the unique pick up combinations and distinct sounds,gets me to the Smiths jangle pop territory easily without any effects.Also seems to be the lightest of all(compared to the jazzmaster and jaguar) which is a huge plus imo.

I mentioned my problems with the Mustang trem unit which I had on my both crafted in Japan Mustangs.
I had detuning problems and it seemed that the japanese trem units where responsible for it.
The point where the metal cigar height adjusting screws hit the trem unit plate is different in vintage and reissue models. Just my bad experiences.
If you never had problems, good for you!

Yes, the Mustangs have got this jangle pop sound if needed.
