Just in case this hasn't been posted before.

A tv channel over here has been showing Elvis Presley movies lately and I thought I would have a look.

They are fairly trite.

But in Speedway when Elvis is singing in the club the band has a light blue or maybe surf green Bass VI and a sunburst coronado.

Elvis Presley sings "Let Yourself Go!"

In another song later in the movie there is a Fender XII in place of the Bass VI

Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra - Ain't nothing like a song.

But the highlight is when one of the waitresses gets married, they leave the church under a array of red mustangs and B & B sunburst jags, at 2:00 minute sin the following video

Charlotte Stewart in Speedway

First off i want to say i love Elvis movies and own most of them.

speedway is a pretty good one with good gear content.

I think Scotty Moore's website chronicles all of the gear Elvis used in him films with lots of nice photos.

My favorite Elvis guitar is the double neck SG from spinout i think.

Speedway & Clambake. Can you get two more polarised film names?

My favourites are still DriveThru & ShitStop.

Hey! I've talked about this (kinda) before!

Is that pass really Charcoal Frost? Seems too dark to be LPB.. But I thought Charcoal Frost was kinda metallic black?

I think that's right. It's hard to find ones today which haven't darkened or turned pea green from the aged lacquer. Here is one that shows the blue:

'66 CFM Jaguar

The previous owner cleaned off yellowed lacquer in this case.

I have never seen a P-bass in CFM! What a lot of rare color/guitar combos in those clips. They have a clip of Phil X at Fretted Americana playing what they claim is one of two existing Foam Green Bass VI's. There must have been more than that made. The collector linked to above wonders if his might have been the one used in the Elvis movie. Of course there is the one in Spinal Tap (don't even look at it). Phil X says the one they had isn't that one.

Hmm, yeah that makes sense then. Charcoal Frost sure is a weird color. Check out Phil X playing a drool-worthy Charcoal Frost Fender xii:

It looks different than the Jaguar. Similar... But different.

Wonder what those screw things on the back were for?

When I had Paul (Stereordinary) make me a "Jazzuar", I wanted it to look like a CFM which had greened a bit over time. That Fender XII Phil X demoed looks immaculate...about as close to original finish as you could want. Very blueish gray like the one on reverb. The new thin skins "look" a little more gray--more of a lighter pewter color. It's no doubt an interpretation of what they consider the average CFM color.

You are right, it is a weird color which seems to shift a lot depending on aging and the lighting in the pictures. That's probably true of all the metallic custom colors especially.

I have a danocaster p bass in green CFM. I love it when it goes green. I have to sell that thing soon to build a jazz bass in burgundy mist... GAS strikes...
